Location in the park is nice, but adding a shower facility would improve the experience.

The campground was beautiful and quiet! The Hosts were very helpful! The location is very convenient to the NP and to the town Medora. We would like to see more of the park in the future!

Cottonwood is a nice campground that has easy access to water and flush toilets. We enjoyed the easy location to the visitor center and the scenic drives. Cottonwood is close to some easy hikes as well.

Spotlessly clean restrooms and a nice shady site next to the river made for a nice stay. Many thanks to the staff and rangers!

We stayed in site 51 in early July. The campsite was close to the restrooms, but also far enough away that there wasn't an issue with lights or traffic. We camped with a small 18' camper and had plenty of room. The way the campsite is configured, we wouldn't have wanted to stay with anything larger. Campsites were spaced apart nicely. We could see our camping neighbors, but couldn't hear them and we still felt that we had privacy. We had a nice view across the road where we saw horses in the mornings. The rangers were very friendly and helpful.

We hit a bad streak of weather in mid June 2024. We got there in cold rain, sites were muddy, including ours. Nearest bathroom was closed. Sites were much smaller than the pix on the reservation site would make them look, and were have a class b only 21' long. We also found that nearly all the trials required a wading water crossing right at the beginning which was not great news with the cold. The just show crossings on the maps no mention of wet or dry crossings. Too cold for that. We were scheduled for 4 days, but with similar weather coming, we left the next morning as did many others in the campground, it appeared. Many empty sites when we got there and even more first thing in the morning. Not nearly as nice a place as it's popularity would indicate.

Well maintained and clean, enjoyed our visit even though only for one day

Quiet near river. Drinking water is near most sites. Some corners are a bit tight for very large rigs. Great place to watch stars. Did not go into restrooms or bathhouse

Nice campground. I had a site that was relatively private (051). If I returned I'd shoot for the campsites that have views of the river. The bathroom facilities are new and very nice. I was close to a small trail with access to the river which is a nice little hike and room to walk the river bed. There were water fill stations throughout the CG, ours had standing water around it so not optimal.

I had no idea how different the ND and SD badlands are. Buffalo were everywhere. Lots of wild horses. The park is stunningly beautiful. I can see why Teddy Roosevelt loved the area. The campground was laid out wonderfully. Lots of room. No hookups but wonderful.

Campground was overall very nice. We were even greeted by bison the first night. However, the newer bathrooms were either locked or being renovated/built meaning we had to trek halfway across the campground to the only remainly pit toilet in the campground. No explanation, no heads up before you check out online, no discount for limited services. Other than that its a great spot with fairly private spots with many cottonwoods throughout the campground. Would definitely come back again.

We had bison come through the campground a couple of times. Bathrooms were clean. Great location.
