I would definitely stay here again. The campground was full but our site felt private.

This campground was perfect! We were woken up around 5am to a bison loudly munching on some grass outside our tent which was incredible. The amenities were clean and easy to access. Highly recommend this spot!

Cottonwood Campground has got to be the best National Park campground I have been to in a long time! The sites were nice, plus the wildlife coming and going thru was amazing. The morning Turkey alarm gobble was fun. Take the time to drive up to the North unit, I'm glad I did, there was so much more to see geologically. TRNP is a true hidden gem that is passed by. Glad I decided to make it part of my Spring trip! Only one "problem" during my stay was someone that obviously didn't know what time zone they were in and stared the generator and hour early. I got a good laugh!

It was so incredibly hot and buggy when we visited at the end of July that we left our site early. Having no electricity and it being extremely hot in the camper through the night, we headed out. But! We loved walking to the river to enjoy the beautiful badlands. If the weather was cooler we would stay here again.

We loved our stay. Our girls wanted to be part of the junior ranger program so the amazing camp host, former ranger, came and helped them through their field journal and then led them through the oath and pinning ceremony. The girls were and still are so proud. The wildlife is amazing, seeing wild horses, bison and prairie dogs. We highly recommend!!!

Very pretty campground, but lots of bugs! When at site 29 we were quite far from the restrooms. The campground map on the park website has a bathroom in the upper half of the north loop, but that is under construction and not yet accessible. If proximity to restrooms is important to you, choose a site in the lower half of the north loop.

We visited when the temperatures were 98 to 100 so the limited generator hours didn't cool our rig down before the cut off time. We really enjoyed driving and seeing the beautiful scenery in both the south and north units. Be aware for site 29 even though it's a pull through the branches on both sides limit where you can park to open your slides. We parked near the end of the site so we could open ours. The notes say the picnic table is on the right and grill on the left. The picnic table was beside the grill on the left. The right side is where the next site puts their tent. Be sure to fill your fresh tank at the entrance to the campground next to the dumpsters. The dump station at the Medora Campground was easy to get to and use.

Absolutely disgusting. We had made our reservation for Cottonwood two months earlier, but were not informed that the restrooms were being renovated. Under normal circumstances, that wouldn't have been a big problem, but management of this park made no effort to satisfy the needs of a full campground. There was only one small pit toilet to service the entire campground and it was horribly overfilled. Regular servicing would have been nice, as would some temporary port-a-potties. But no, that simple idea seems to have been too much to ask. Surely by now the new restrooms will be complete, so we are hopeful that arriving guests will have a better experience. Somebody should have been held accountable.

This was a wonderful campground to stay at, clean, well kept, and there was a resident buffalo wondering thru the campground! We kept our distance and took lots of photographs. Hope to go back sometime.

We really enjoyed Cottonwood campground. We got VERY lucky and got to experience the buffalo herd coming THROUGH the campground and into our sites. It was amazing to see them up close and personal while safely observing from our camper. The campsites seem to vary in size, but we were happy with ours. The camp host was very kind and welcoming. The bathrooms were clean and had running water. No pit toilets ;)
