We have been going to mccown valley for 20+ years. But we have always had to mow our own camping spots and a path to the water everytime. Rain or shine the grass should never be higher than a normal lawn. There is absolutely no excuse for high grass. Either maintain it or choose a type of landscaping that does not require grass around the camp sites. One guy could maintain the entire park.

Great Lake to go to

The beach area was amazing! The water was much cleaner than other lakes I've swam in. The sand covered the bottom of the whole swim area. There wasn't any garbage or excess debris along the beach area. The bathrooms had excellent working hot showers!

Camp site was fine. Grass was tall enough the hosts felt it warranted an apology. It was fine with me. The wild flowers were visible.Men's facility #3 is in need of work

We really enjoyed the park, even though it was cold and rainy a lot of the weekend.

Good park, lots of sites on the water or close. Too few bathrooms and only 1 shower in each. Most sites are level, have good access and nicely spaced. The town of Whitney doesn't have many restaurants, tried the pizza place (yuk), tried the mexican place (so so), found our way to The Cove a restaurant down "in the holler", they have catfish special on Fri, husband said it was good, I had chicken fried chicken, also good. We went a second time and I had the grilled chicken with mushrooms/swiss cheese. I requested no onions and it had a lot of onions, they didn't charge me for that meal. Brookshires grocery has weekly specials with points off your fuel purchase. Camp hosts were friendly.

Winter camping at its finest. It was a very cold week. Temperatures got down to 0 degrees, but the fire was nice and warm. Minimal activities from the locals driving thru. Great service for work/school while visiting the area. The site was open and spacious.

They was electric and water hookup. Site was paved, but pretty sloped to one side, so leveling was necessary. There is a bathroom with one shower but it's quite old, dirty, and tons of bugs (also no heat in the building even though it was freezing temps outside).

Showed up after dark without a reservation, trying to figure out kiosk the camp host came over and was very helpful getting us a easy spot to get into at night, (42' 5th wheel) and get registered on the website, (I was outside) then came by late and check if we got in ok and if we needed anything. Some host wouldn't go the extra distance to help with finding a spot.

Our stay at McCown Valley was so enjoyable! The hosts, Betty, hubby and Fido were so attentive and friendly! The campground was very well maintained! We had a site that was a bit unlevel, but Betty allowed us to change it immediately. The next site was just beautiful! We'll surely look forward to going back again! Had quite a few laughs and talks w/Betty! Will miss you! Your friends, Aj and Carol from Bawston (aka) Boston!

Rented the group pavilion for a youth group outing. Before the trip I had questions and tried to reach out to the park, this was a little more difficult than what I would have preferred as no one would answer the phone. However, after leaving a message and waiting a couple of days a very nice park ranger called me back and answered all my questions. Once we got to the park, I was more than pleased with the cleanliness of the grounds and the park employee that checked on us. Will definitely be booking this site again next year!

One of the best parks along with Sidran does need to be mowed though

The main issue with McCown Valley park is that they don't have a gate code like other COE parks. A registered family member had to arrive late and couldn't get in which resulted in paying for a hotel stay. Also, the gate remained wide open all day which allowed non-campers to roam through the park. There were some unsavory characters that repeatedly cruised through the park every day that we were there which posed a safety issue. I understand that when you're short-staffed you can't tie someone up with gate-keeping all day--but a gate code, issued to campers on the confirmation email, would solve all these problems. I strongly suggest that you look into that. Because of this shortcoming, we probably won't be back.

The whole point to coming down and camping was so that we could take our boat out and go fishing. The boat ramp was closed due to excessive rain, but we were not informed of this. So we showed up to our camping spot. We set up our camping spot and then I walked down to the boat ramp to find that it was closed and not accessible. So we loaded our boat back up onto the back of the truck and we loaded our camper back up and we headed back home, so we were not even there for an hour and yet we still paid for it. We were very unhappy with our attempted stay. As we were not informed of the current conditions of the park

I wanted to thank you for this site and especially for the notifications feature. Thanks to your site and my subscription I was able to book a campsite I've been annoyingly trying to book for 5 years unsuccessfully. So thank you.

@Wondering - Oregon

Wow! Woke up this morning to a notification that a favorite had opened at Paulina, and when I went to check, it was there. This membership just paid for itself in the first 24 hours I owned it. Couldn't take the site it conflicted with a trip already set, but it truly was there. Thanks Tons.

@CarlaLThompson - Colorado

I just love this site and I tell everyone about it! It's so competitive to secure desired campsites and the alerts really help track when sites free up. The best part of this story is our alert notified a cancellation the next day!!!!!! Just incredible!!!
