We love lake bardwell but something I noticed yesterday first hand was the surveillance that was going on. Park rangers constantly driving by staring at us, sheriff deputy parking and watching everyone right by our campsite for a long time, front shack attendants driving by and staring, felt like we were constantly being observed, I don’t remember it being like this before. We weren’t doing anything wrong but geez find something productive for these people to do. The park rangers in a white Ford truck told the people to leave because they had not rented the campsite, the 2 rangers stayed then got out and confronted the people and ask them “is there a good reason you haven’t left yet? Heavy handed, someone from their group had gone to rent the site. We didn’t care for any of that just came to relax and have a fun time.

We have camped in this park for a number of years and it's usually worked well; the last time was in 2019. However, this year we noticed that even though they had built two new bath houses, one was closed and the other was not cleaned on any of the 4 days that we were there. I guess that the worst problem was the fact that the only available dump station was out of order. We were told by another camper that it was somehow damaged during the recent hard freeze in February and had not been repaired. It would be nice to have such information at the time of making a reservation. In all, it would appear that the park is poorly maintained. It appears as if when something breaks, it just stays that way. This is unfortunate because it's relatively close to home and it made a nice two to three day retreat. We won't be going back and I would recommend that other campers consider other options, which are limited because this is the only park out of the three on lake Bardwell that's open year 'round.

As soon as we arrived we were greeted by a friendly lady who checked us in quickly. After seeing the lake view site (#18) we selected online, it appeared to be too steep for our fifth wheel since we were concerned about bottoming out. So, we went back to the entry station and requested another available site, and given a couple of choices. The one we chose (#14) was across the road but still had lake views so we were very happy. We especially liked that sites are a generous distance from other sites for added privacy. Highly recommended!
