Park hosts are awesome.

Beautiful campground with a pretty swimmable lake. Boat ramp on site. Small shaded trails that'll take you to different areas of the campground. Friendly hosts. Water and electricity worked fine. I chose spot 43 because I thought I would have a water view according to the pics posted with the site. However, this site is a bit strange. Your view is of bushes, and the fire ring along with the table are placed pretty far from where you set up. You do have easy access to the water it's just not your direct view. The shoreline had a lot of trash everywhere, I really wish people would pick up after themselves! The bathrooms are OK. Only 1 shower worked at the one near me. The toilets do not have seat covers, and if someone were to fly a drone near the bathhouse (although very pretty and open) you could probably watch people shower through the windows up top. The gates at this facility close at 10:00 p.m. and there's no way of getting back in if you are out after that. I was told that if I came back after 10, I'd have to leave my vehicle at the front gate and walk to my site. My site is about a mile from the front gate. Not really sure how I feel about this because I feel like there should be some sort of a code for guests that maybe want to go see a show while in town or do something that causes them to stay out a little later than 10 pm. First campground I've come across that doesn't have an access code to come in and out of. All around it's a nice campground.

The place is beautiful with an incredible view, but the neighbors are not very friendly, it is not allowed to play music, something stupid for a picnic, the bathrooms are very dirty and neglected, I would think about two kisses to return.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Hickory Creek. You are right off I-35 with easy access to the metroplex, but it is still nice and quiet and safe in the park. The sites were clean and level, the utilities were in good repair, and the roads are in good shape. We didn't use any of the on site facilities, so I can't speak to those. The staff were polite, and all in all we enjoyed our stay. We'll definitely stay here again. The only down side to the entire weekend was the gate being locked at 10PM. We are used to that being the case in COE parks near major cities, but it is an even larger concern at this particular park because it's a mile long walk from the gate to the nearest camp sites. It's one thing to walk a couple hundred yards through the gate when you have to park outside after 10PM, but it's another to walk a mile in dress clothes after dark in the summer time down south. Fortunately, we planned ahead and rented a car to stage just inside the gate so we wouldn't have to do that. But the fact remains, there is no consideration for this potential on the part of the park or the COE. I don't know what the answer is, but beware if you have any plans in the evening that you will either have to have a spare vehicle to stage, or plan to stay out of the park until the gates open up the next morning.

Hickory Creek COE is one of the best parks around. You are minutes from old Town Lewisville and a few minutes from Denton.

I had a wonderful visit here. My pull through site was level, with lake front views. Check in was straight-forward and quick. Trails afforded a nice evening walk. Easy access to all that Dallas/Ft. Worth has to offer, yet a beautiful oases from the traffic and hustle.

Loved being right on the lake, but unfortunately we went during a heat wave, so no camp fire nor did we take advantage of hiking trails. Nice park with a lot of rules smack dab in the middle of a city. Access to shopping and restaurants close by.

The campground was very nice. It's great to be right in Dallas, but yet in a quiet secluded setting on the lake. We sat out in the evening just watching all the plans fly over heading for the airport. It's a very busy airport. They weren't noisy though. They were far enough away that they were pretty quiet. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is that I made sure to get a spot next to the bathhouse, but it was closed when we were there, and we had to walk to another one.

Love this campground. Very quiet and peaceful. Sites are right along the river. I saw people fishing in the river and may people using boats or kayaks.
