Nice campground, especially if youre a tent camper. We have a 26 trailer and reserved space 17 online because it was long enough to get the trailer in. It was. But it was also on a fairly steep slope so we had to find another spot. Thankfully we were there mid week so the upper loops were almost empty. Got a workable spot and enjoyed our time. Park rangers need to get better dumpsters though. A bear came every morning and tipped them over to release the lids. Smart bear.

Wild Plum is fun-right on Haypress Creek, close to Lakes Basin.
Only a 4 star rating due to lack of a camp ground host. Several “no shows”, the sites were left open/unused to any “drop in” participants of the Downieville Classic bike race.
Additional issue- the dumpster was overflowing in Bear country. An additional dumpster should have been available if pick up is only once weekly.
The Forest service did maintain the bathrooms.

The Wild Plum Loop Trail does not have a sign in the upper end of Wild Plum Campground and where it leaves the access road to connect with the Pacific Crest Trail to return to Wild Plum Camp Ground. Over all, Wild Plum Camp Ground is a wonderful campground.

We have been going to Wild Plum since 1983 & I hope to continue for another 20 years. I felt like wed won the lottery when the campground opened the week before our scheduled reservation. This years campground host was the best EVER. Caree (Carey?) was by far the hardest working, most gracious, friendliest host in the time weve been going to Wild Plum/Sierra City. She was extremely adroit at dealing with noise after 10:00 PM, shutting down kids trying to party ( yes, even in COVID Times), talked to all of the campers about potential wildlife issues. She was fabulous. We hope to see her next year.
