We do like the setting, but there was an aggressive bear that wandered the camp day and night eating peoples food and scaring the kids. The sites have bear bases but the bear can open them so all of our food was eaten in the middle of the day on our first day! We drove to Truckee to get new food ( local grocery stores dont have fresh food) then we had to watch our camp all day and chase off the bear whenever it came to eat our new groceries. The camp host was nice and let us use a bear box in a different site with a different style bear box that is harder to open, but then we had an awkward exchange with the people who showed up to camp in that spot and were shocked to find our food in their box. We then had to go to multiple sites and ask to put some of our food in other peoples bear boxes. It was very uncomfortable but we didnt have a choice. Also the bear opened the dumpsters each night and spread garbage all over the campground. I used to love seeing bears, but this bear was scary because it would walk right up on you in the middle of the day. I was worried that it might hurt my kids or my small dog so we were on edge the entire trip.

I'm happy that this place let us burn our firewood. During this time of the season, no other place here in northern california would let us. I was able to book last minute as well.

We had a very nice camping spot along the creek but, actually, all the sites are pretty nice as they are large and have plenty of trees. My granddaughter came with us and she loved exploring and playing in the creek for hours at a time. The hike to Love's Falls is nice, and there are plenty of hiking trails. We stayed for two nights, which was perfect for us. Highly recommend.
