It’s a nice spot to stop with some pretty views across the lake. Sites were a bit indistinct, opening into the roadway with little vegetation to define them. The vault toilets smelled fine but didn’t look as clean as other national forest facilities we’ve encountered. Camp host had firewood for sale, an increasingly rare amenity. No recycling. No potable water at the campground, only at the ranger station in town.

We pulled in to Lakeside at Truckee, but ended up not staying. The site was about 8 feet from the outhouse and dumpsters lined the side of the campsite. Some sites at this campground looked quite spacious, but the one we reserved was tiny, had no shade or privacy. We drove on and found some dispersed camping that was nicer. Since so many campgrounds now require reservations, Recreation.gov could do everybody a great service by having a comprehensive library of photos showing campsites. I'm sure there are volunteers who would do the photography and the posting.
