Great sites with friendly host. Choose carefully as some are not level. Sites 2, 3 and 4 are back in wonderful sites. Especially #2

The good: Great location near the dune beaches, not far from Florence, lakes, rivers. Bathrooms were clean, flush toilets, had running water. Not too crowded or noisy. Nice firepit and picnic table, private, and space at campsite #2 (though size and space varied a lot by site). The meh: It says to check in with the camp host, but I never saw the host until the last of 5 days. Had an "off duty" or "on inspection" sign every time I went by, and we were right near the host. Website says you can buy firewood there, but again, the host wasn't there when I was and I didn't see firewood available to self-serve, so I ended up just buying wood elsewhere. The bad: The biggest downside of the campground were the mosquitos. So many! It's next to a little river, and the mosquitos were relentless. Hard to enjoy relaxing by the fire with them harassing you. We doused ourselves head to toe in smelly bud spray, lit a citronella candle, warded them away with smoke from our fire. Even so, they still bit me a bunch, so we did not end up staying at the campsite much - just ate quickly and went out to have adventures in less buggy locations. If mosquitos like you, you probably won't find this location very relaxing.

Loved how shady and private our site was compared to others at the campground - we had neighbors but couldn't really see them. Lots of shrubs and pretty large site. Located pretty equally from either restroom.

Campsite was spacious and very private. Bathrooms were clean. The campground was really quiet, even though it was filled up by the end of our stay. Overall, we were really happy with the location and condition of the site! Close to town and plenty of beaches. Only complaint would be the beach it's closest to is over a gigantic dune you have to walk up, which was not easy with a small child. The beach itself was great, but that one dune was a killer!

Great camp ground. We stay here every year during our annual kayak trip down the siltcoos trail.
Clean spacious good restrooms. Great hiking trails and water access.

Wax Myrtle was great! We love the campsites, very private and big. Also lots of great little trails and places to explore

We love this campground. It would have got 5 stars if it still had a posted map at the front board and self service checkin tickets for the site post and or dashboard.
These are campground basics.

Great place to camp if you enjoy proximity to hiking trails, paddling and OHV recreation. Restroom facilities are a bit run-down and sometimes underserviced, but the camping environment is lovely. Not recommended if you are bothered by the sound of late-night OHV action in the nearby dunes, although they usually wrap up their activities by midnight.

Waxmyrtle Campground is a nice facility in a great location in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The staff made a great effort to keep the facilities clean and well-maintained. The sites are spacious, and ours felt quite private. The Siltcoos River was close by. The Waxmyrtle Trail led a mile through the dunes to a lovely section of beach that was uncrowded because not that many people want to hike a mile through the dunes. There is another dunes train called Chief Tsiltcoos right across the access road, and a third trail follows an old oxbow of the river, now a wildlife haven slowly becoming a meadow. Our party enjoyed kayaks and paddleboards on the river, from the lake to the ocean surf.

The only downside was that, if there are shower facilities, they were closed while we were there. Well, and this is next to an OHV recreation area, so if you are hoping for quiet wilderness sounds, you'll be hearing dune buggies and ATVs instead.

For us, it was a blessing. While it was 115 degrees in Portland, it never got warmer than 82 along the Siltcoos, and was mostly in the 60s-70s.

Great stay; close to dunes and beach.

The campsite we had was perfect for our family and dog. And the camp hosts were so nice and shared some of their personal firewood with us because we forgot ours. Would definitely recommend to others and plan on going back this year.
