The road up to the campsite and lake takes around two hours. Be watchful of others, it is a one lane road, go slow and pull off to the side when you can. The campsites were a little hidden if youve never been to the area they can be hard to find, but there will be a sign posted to the right directly following the Resort. The camp host is a little further up the road from campsite one. Bring strong bug spray because the site is right next to a marshy area, also wear hiking boots if you got em. It gets pretty cold at night up there even during the hottest of months, so pack accordingly. The lake was very cold but beautiful none the less. They have bathrooms and bear-proof dumpsters a short walk from the site as well. You can find a map of the vicinity online if you search for it. There is in-fact no service up there. At the resort next door they do have a land-line you can use if needed. Wi-Fi is around $25 per device and in my opinion is kind of steep so I recommend just calling with their landline whoever you need to get in contact with. They have card games and board games you can borrow as well just make sure you bring them back. Showers at the resort are around $8. Lock absolutely everything scented and food in the bear-box provided at the site. It can fit a medium cooler and four to five grocery bags. Bring your own drinking water. I recommend buying wood locally from shops or gas-stations at shaver lake before you arrive. All fallen wood can be collected and burned as well. I recommend walking down to the lake at night and seeing the stars from there, just be aware of your surroundings and dont cut through occupied campsites if you can. Also walk in groups and bring really good flashlights. Overall was a wonderful experience and had beautiful surroundings. The view of the stars from the lake is mesmerizing. Worth the long trek and the price.

This is an excellent campground on the other side of Kaiser Pass. Your up 7, 648 feet in the Sierra National Forest which has some great landscape, excellent fishing, and great hiking. The lake edges are nice and sandy. There are no flushing toilets, no mirrors in the restroom to put on your makeup, no electricity for your hair straighteners/blow dryers, no cell phone service (which makes it great), or internet. If you like glamping not camping, don’t come here. Majority of the sites are shaded with pine trees. Robert the camp host was very welcoming & has a lot of information about the area. Keep in mind if it’s a dry/drought year or late in the season the water level will not be by the campsites. The lake is used to make electricity for SCE not for your pleasure. The ONE LANE ROAD is awesome but not for all drivers. I’m tired of people complaining about it. It’s a beautiful road. There is a lot of pot holes, some areas are on a cliff, you may have to back up to give people room. If your scared of heights, don’t know how to drive or can’t drive, stay off the road. Please don’t come up in your minivan or prius and hold up traffic.
