The camp sites are super close together and very small. We could hear our neighbors talking and playing music all night. Only a few of the sites had a bear safe box- ours did not. We were right next to the path to the bathroom- people were walking right next to our tent all night but we had no other space on our site to put the tent. The rangers were extremely friendly and helpful, though.

It was ok. Bathrooms were really far away from my site as there was only one bathroom open.
Very nice campground and volunteers. Some people ran their generators outside of restricted hours. This meant we heard a hum. bathrooms were decent.

Great campground! Much more private and spread out compared to Big Meadows. Staff at check in were very helpful and assisted us with securing a first come first serve spot through the entire weekend since campgrounds were filling up. We pulled in with a 1 night reservation for Thursday, but had the option to select a different site that could be reserved for the following 2 nights. It all worked out perfectly and staff were very helpful and flexible with reservations. Great hikes in the area and a scenic drive to Big Meadows area for hiking there.

I grew up camping in Shenandoah National Park. I live far away now but I love coming back here. Matthews Arm is one of the smaller campgrounds and these sites vary in size and shape with some having their own bear box, others not. It was mid October so we slept in our SUV (honestly, I forgot our tent but packed everything else) Bathrooms were clean. Good fire rings with the flip down grill tops. Park staff at the check-in office was friendly. Campsites were wooded with lots of shade. We got firewood and souvenirs at the nearby store - just a few minutes south on Skyline Drive. They have a little kitchen there too. That Virginia ham and grilled cheese sandwich hit the spot. Only downside is we had to fill our water bottles with a hose-style faucet \_()_/ The shiny copper looked new but it was crammed next to 5 porta potties. Again, this was at the nearby store, not the camp.

The whole park was amazing! We had an amazing time camping at Matthews Arm Campground! The bathrooms and entire campground were very clean! There was so much wildlife to see in the park, even while at the campsite! There were tons of wild blackberries and butterflies everywhere! This was one of the best vacations we have ever had! I would highly recommend visiting the park for a day or even camping out for a week as we did!

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
