Bathrooms were quite clean, camp hosts were friendly, responsive, and helpful; music program was interesting (about mountain people's history and music), and the other campers were very considerate and friendly. Scenery was beautiful! The broiled cod entre at the Main Street Grill in Front Royal was fresh! Recommend Matthew's Arm campground, as it is closest to Front Royal, which has everything you need, such as cavern tours, restaurants, grocery, firewood. Front Royal is growing!

Stayed in loop B, very nice sites, clean bathrooms. Stony Man is a must hike.

Sites are not very level. A lot of barking dogs and continual campfire smoke. We left early.

Nice campground, quiet, good road access and sites are decent size. However most sites are not level. Be prepared for moderate leveling of your rig.

Check in was easy, site was nice, fine for quick stay. Nice facilities but they were out of soap.

The Matthews Arm campground was very peaceful with plenty of open camping spots. My only complaint that the bathrooms need a bit of an update and there are no showers.

Despite the rain we enjoyed our generator free spot a great deal. Close to the bath house but private too. Definitely thinking about coming back.

Everything about the reservation process went off without a hitch. Matthew Arm campground provides a great base area for many hiking opportunities ranging from the beginner to expert level. Folks should double check to assure their routes match their individual fitness levels. Park Service estimates should perhaps be read on the conservative side - an ounce of caution is better than a pound of cure. Our biggest problem was unexpected rain - but what is one going to do about that?
