Campsite was well-maintained, and bathrooms were quite sufficient despite not having showers. Everyone there was so friendly, and the campsite had a few walking trails within the premises that were lovely to explore.

was very happy with this spot compared to most of the others at this campground too close to each other. the tent pad was nestled in the bushes/ trees

There is no shower facilities. It made us very uncomfortable.

Mathews Arm campground was amazing. We spent 11 nights there in mid May. The weather was great, hiking was amazing. We spent two days in Washington D.C. We were near a bathroom which had flush toilets and electricity. This enabled us to charge our cell phones without having to use our generator. Great camp hosts too!

Great experience. We enjoyed Matthews Arm campground. Bathrooms were clean and warm. Weather was great Leaves we’re peak color. Not crowded at all. Sky land and BigMeadow with hikes to Dark Hallow Falls, Stoney Man, Lewis Falls all great. Luray Cavern worth a visit too.

We stayed at Matthew's Arm campground over on a Sunday evening to Monday. Since there were few campers, it was quiet, however, the garbage truck came through before the sun, disrupting the peace and quiet. I also found it stressful to figure out the firewood situation. We arrived in the park about 6:30pm, so Elk Wallow wayside and the campground check-in were both closed. We found that the campground host had a stash of firewood so we grabbed a few cords. However, there was no place to pay for the wood. Checking out the next morning, we discovered from the ranger that in order to pay for the used firewood, we had to drive to Elk Wallow Wayside, purchase wood then drive back to Matthew's Arm campground and deliver the firewood to the host site. This process is ridiculously inefficient and discourages campers to follow through, especially those on a tight schedule. Since campers are now required to buy firewood locally it would make sense to have firewood and a paybox at the campground and/or at Elk Wallow and include this information in the reservation description. Until this process changes, I would suggest to anyone arriving after check-in to purchase firewood in Sperryville or Luray on your way into the park.Otherwise, we had a nice visit to Shenandoah NP and Matthew's Arm campground was a good experience.

Beautiful and spacious front country campsites towards the northern end of Shenandoah NP. I really appreciated the layout and planning of the area. The bathrooms were also very nice and clean. Will definitely camp here again!

Rangers were accommodating and answered all our questions. Site was easy to get in to and level. No hook ups, but knew that. Nice stay, quiet, friendly people.

The campsite can fit 2 tents and 2 cars comfortably. The bench and fire pit are great for making food.
