There is adequate spacing between sites in this pleasant campground full of songbirds. The rest rooms are clean & well maintained but we did not use the showers or even look at them as they are a long walk from the campground. We really appreciated the "utility sink" for dish water disposal. We were in site G191 in a 25 foot travel trailer & found it challenging to get level but we managed. It would be hard for larger rigs in most sites but we saw a few. It is mostly tent campers. Up on a ridge, the wind blew hard almost the whole time we were there. The staff was friendly & helpful at check-in. When trying to decide which campground, consider which trails you want to hike as this campground is down toward the lower end of the park and many of the most popular trails are in the northern end. Drive time between trail heads and the visitor centers is significant, but of course quite scenic. Overall, this is a great campground.

Well maintained campground. Convenient and well stocked camp store, including reasonably priced firewood. Clean and well maintained restroom facilities, and available showers. All personal, from rangers to store clerks were pleasant, helpful and efficient. The only issue that could use some attention and would be a help to "tenters," is that since the general campsites do not have tent pads, it would be helpful to know when selecting/reserving a site whether it has a relatively smooth surface, or whether the surface has rock-outcroppings.Otherwise a great campground.

We used this as a base to visit Thomas Jeffersons Monticello near Charlottesville, VA, one hour away. Took the 45-minute highlights tour of the mansion, then explored the grounds and many exhibits on our own. On the way back to Loft Mountain, stopped at Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyards for a late lunch. The hike to Doyles River Falls was nice and uncrowded, 3.3 miles round trip, turning around just after the falls, with longer hikes possible.

Had a great time here at Loft Mountain Campground! I did get sick and had to leave early, but the rangers and hosts were excellent! This is the 2nd time I stayed here, and I loved it both times. Very clean and well taken care of!
