Site was very nice. Had a great time. As tent campers, site was just right. We hit the Riprap trail and visited the camp store when we got back which was convenient. Overall, a great trip.

This is a large, very busy campground with fairly small spaces, altho most have some screening with trees and shrubs. The rangers were all friendly and helpful. There were clean restroom buildings throughout each section of the campground. Each had a large sink outside for filling dishwashing tubs. No showers nearby but they are available for $5 at the camp store which is a fairly short walk from some sections, a drive from others. Its a really nice store along with restrooms, showers, water bottle filling station. We had to buy head netting and firewood as soon as we got there because the gnats were terrible while setting up. The store closes at 5pm but everything else stays open. There are LOTS of dogs in the campground, at least one at nearly every space. We didnt see any bears while there but everyone warned us about them and the need to put everything in your locked vehicle at night. Cell coverage is very, very iffy there. Just outside the campground, on Skyline Drive, is a small park store and restaurant. You may be surprised that you have to pay $30 to enter Shenandoah Natl Park, in addition to the camping fees. But, the very nice and helpful rangers at the Skyline Drive entrance near Waynesboro let us know that for $20 we could get a senior pass which is good for a year. Theres also a military/veteran pass.

Pick you spot carefully as many are on an incline or facing "the wrong way". Campground is right on the AT and with plenty of side-hiking opportunities. Verizon cell service was spotty.

Beautiful and very roomy campsite. Great access to the rest of the park. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Nice campground with good spacing between sites. Restrooms are well-kept and clean. The pay showers (near the camp store) are a bit of a pain, since they serve the large campground plus any AT hikers, but the water pressure is good & water is hot. (if you experience one not working, the camp store staff are able to resolve most issues). We enjoyed hikes that we drove to the trailhead for, but also did the one from the campground. The area has most excellent hiking!

Nice sites. Good bathrooms and utility sinks. Only issue was having to walk thru another site to get to the bathrooms; wasn't an issue this time as no one was in at least one of the sites. Very good hiking trails and access to them.

Even though it’s dry camping. Loft Mountain has always been our favorite place to camp. It has been nice to see the improvements over the years. From the Camp Store to the Showers. The check in station with a person. From the old self check in. Lot of good memories over the years. Nothing is better than a stake and baked potato dinner on Loft Mountain. Better than any restaurant.
It sad to see even with the current high demand a section E closed and over grown. The tables in the sites have become in sad shape. They really need to be replaced like in other areas of the park. The place isn’t keep as pristine as it once was. The cell phone service is very poor. Almost nonexistent.

We really enjoyed our stay in this campground. Two kids, two adults, two dogs. Lots of warnings about bears, but saw none and did the various recommended things with storing our food and trash out of reach.

THERE IS AN IMPOSSIBLE TUNNEL ON THE MOST NORTHERN PART OF SKYLINE DRIVE. WITH THE RV WE WOULD HAVE TO ENTER ON 33 OR FROM THE SOUTHERN SIDE OF THE PARK. We entered the park on highway 33 south of Big Meadows visitor center. Stayed in loft mountain campground with reserved site G190. We hiked Jones run falls trail and went on to Doyle's River falls trail which connected to the Brown trail and circle back on a small section of the Appalachian trail to make a seven mile loop. We took the rapidan camp tour which was very interesting and learned a lot about Herbert Hoover and his wife Lou. The Fall colors were beautiful and stopped at a few overlooks on our way down south on skyline drive going out. Generator hours from 8 to 10 in the morning and 5 to 9 in the evening which kept our battery charged for running the refrigerator and the propane heater. At 4 a.m. on the second morning there was a power outage and a very loud generator came on adjacent to the site 191 across from us I would not stay in 190 again for this reason.

Small sites, but we'll laid out campground. Septic dump and potable water available for your rig. There is no close gas station, so be sure to fill up before heading up the mountain.
