Loved this campground! Although we were tent camping we appreciated the site setups that appear to be designed to accommodate both tent campers and RVs with a "pull through" style driveway in front of each site. While our particular site was flat and pretty free of roots or rocks, we did see that some sites had outcroppings that depending on the size of your tent might prove to be an impediment to siting a tent on the spot cleared for that purpose. We are now big fans of the "Bear Boxes" for food storage on every site and wish every campground in America offered them! We had seen reviews that deer often walk through the campground and very near sites and this is very true so anytime you leave your site be sure to have your camera with you (you will also see a lot of rabbits too!). Also appreciated that we were able to access the Appalachian Trail right from the campground and hike down to the start of the Doyle's Falls Trail -- a great day hike. Also highly recommend the fresh ice cream from the Wayside Camp store for the perfect topping for a campfire baked cobbler (or other dessert)! Also highly recommend the ranger-led Stony Man hike to learn in-depth about the flora along the trail and park history that you may not be aware of.
Our tent site, E144, at Loft Mountain Campground was perfect for a few nights away. There was a bathroom just a few sites down either way from the site with trash located at the end of the road. The site was flat with enough room for our large tent. The bear box provided was great to store our items but we did choose to keep our food in the car. We brought jugs of water since water wasnt available at the site. The site was more secluded than others and had easy access to the car. Waking up to deer, rabbits and birds every morning was amazing and the stars and sunsets were beautiful. The showers are a walk or drive away and are $5 for a 10-minute shower. The showers are coin operated so bring quarters or dollars to change into coins. Theres a store onsite for essentials and wood. We spent our days on the go so didnt check out much around the campground but enjoyed our mornings and evenings here. This campground is the southernmost in the park. It was nice when accessing from the south but did require a lot of driving each day to reach other areas of the park.

We only got to spend one quick night at the loft mountain campground but it was excellent. The privacy of each campsite was extremely welcome after staying at Big Meadows, as was the cleanliness of the bathroom. The site was large and shady with a comfortable, clean picnic table and a clean bear box. The ground was also wonderfully flat, allowing for a great night’s sleep.
Best place to camp in Virginia on Skyline drive. Quiet, spacious, clean, and relaxing. Hiking trails within walking distance and beautiful mountaintop views.

If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
