First, I would like to say I typically enjoy Loft Mountain. However, this particular "camp site" G193 needs to be removed as a place to camp. First, the site was tiny, and the only grass area was right on the road that cars drive by - not the biggest deal as the camp site tends to be quiet.However.... the site is right on the fence of a Keep out facility, which I believe is the water tanks. There is right up aganst the fence a building which has a fan that blows every 5ish minutes. Next, and worst, at 3AM, a 'phone' rang in the building that was automatically answered after four or so rings, and went through an automated response that repeated over and over. This happend several times. Then you finally got to go back to sleep. Roughly an hour or less later, the same phone calls and responses repeated. Please retire this from being a camp site.

The campground is literally on top of a mountain, so we got the full impact of a bad weather situation (rain, wind). On the other hand, we had a couple of really lovely days, too. The campground staff/volunteers were very nice. Unfortunately, the maintenance staff shut down some of the outside water (water fill for RVs, outside water sources) during our stay there in anticipation of possible freezing weather (we were there in October) but information about this was not communicated well.

Wonderfully maintained facility. Very accommodating hosts and rangers . One of our best camping experiences in our 60 years of camping. We will be back!

The sunsets are beautiful. There are several fun trails in the area. My old dog and I enjoyed the Jones Falls Run and Black Rock trails. The Appalachian Trail circles the campground so you can rightfully claim that you hiked a segment of the AT! I saw beautiful butterflies, grazing deer, and a curious adolescent black bear. I enjoyed one ranger talk at the nearby amphitheater. The camp store (with laundry facilities) is convenient.
