Easy check in with Ranger. Map and verbal directions were perfect to our ADA site. Gentle turn into asphalted, level campsite area. As we were in a campervan, it was just a matter of pulling right onto the spot where we wished to set the parking brake.. Spotless surroundings. Clean restrooms. Bear box if you need it. No bears heard in the night. Made to order overnight temps. Going back next year!

Cam in 1 day late and Camped in the handicap site. THe grass was not cut for a very long time. Grass in our site was apx 12 inches tall. Weather was HOT which when combined with the tall grass created a huge issue with nats. Any movement in the grass resulted in massive swarms of nats. Fireplace sides were so tall there was minimal visual of fire. Price of wood was $1 per board which was very expensive and made it difficult to have a decent evening fire. $5 for a 10-minute shower was also very expensive. One shower stall in the mens facility was out of order however when walking in it was easy to miss the sign. When door was closed sign was outside and NOT by the coin machine. I put $5 into the machine and never got the shower. UGH. Very frustrating...

I have been camping at Loft Mountain for years. I love the privacy the sites provide. Rangers and Host are always helpful and friendly.

Staff Rangers (Mark and Rio Stanley) at Loft Mountain Camping and Entrance station were wonderful and treated us like special family. Complaints about grass not cut was handled wonderfully and even though an ongoing problem they had maintenance cut grass for us at the handicapped sites to make it safe for walking. However unknown by these rangers, a maintenance group was replacing fireplaces and putting down gravel leaving LARGE RUTS IN CAMPGROUND CAUSING CAMPERS TO TRIP AND FALL (PARTICULARLY IN G section). They left the ruts and ditches from trucks unfixed and campers with reservations had to endure the rough sites. NOT GOOD. Before fireplaces are installed grass needed to be cut. THEY SAID THAT WAS NOT THEIR JOB many large trucks causing major damage. LURAY SUPERVISOR WAS CONTACTED BY ME (MINDY) REGARDING CONFUSION OVER HANDICAPPED SITES AND SHE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND QUICK IN GETTING BACK TO ME ABOUT HOW HANDICAPPED SITES WERE RESERVED AND NON RESERVED. UPON HEARING HER EXPLANATION, I REALIZED THAT THIS WAS A GOOD WAY TO HANDLE LONG DISTANCE TRAVELERS BY HAVING ONE RESERVED SITE AND ONE NON-RESERVED SITE. TO ME THIS EXPLAINED THE SYSTEM AND I WAS COMPLETELY IN AGREEMENT OF THE WAY THESE SITES WERE BEING HANDLED. IN ALL OUR RECENT WEEK VISIT THERE WAS WONDERFUL, RELAXING AND SAFE. RANGERS WERE ALWAYS AVAILABLE WHEN NEEDED ESPECIALLY RIO AND MARK AND WERE UNDERSTANDING TO SENIORS HANDICAPPED STATUS MAKING OUR VISIT WONDERFUL. WE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE. BUT HAD TO LEAVE DAY EARLY DUE TO HEALTH REASONS. NOW FOR THE BAD PART. FOOD AND DINING AT LOFT AND BIG MEADOWS ARE NO LONGER GOOD. NOT ENOUGH CHOICES ON MENUE, SAME OLD ETC, NO BREAKFAST SERVED ANYMORE AS THE USED TO HAVE A WONDERFUL RESTAURANT AT WAYSIDE BIG MEADOWS AND LOFT MOUNTAIN. NO MORE. CHIPS AND HAMBURGER OVERCOOKED AND STALE ICE CREAM CONES. I HATE TO SEE THE PARK GO DOWNHILL AS I HAVE BEEN COMING THERE SINCE 1960 MANY YEARS NOW AND I AM 80 AND COMPANION 90.

This is my second visit to Shenandoah and I specifically chose Loft mountain this time as I enjoyed it so much the first time. I was especially pleased to see the addition of the bear proof food lockers. I was pleased with the site and the staff in the office are wonderful.

We had a great time! Very clean campground, great for beginners, families, and people looking for a nice weekend camping getaway. Some of the campsites were smaller than expected, and there was a little confusion on the website... Some sections are Reservation Only (regardless of day of the week) whereas others are first come first serve regardless of day of the week. The family that checked in at the same time as us had the same confusion not realizing this, so if you are reserving make sure you find a site that you can reserve up front for your whole trip!

Camp store is thorough and has everything you might need, it's also within walking distance but depending on your campsite it can be up to a mile away. The campground is dog friendly so it can get a little loud with barking depending on the dog.

Ultimately we had an amazing trip and would absolutely stay again!
