Site A3 level, close to bathroom, double wide and handicapped accessible. Close to entrance to park and snack shop

Booked a one night site right next to the bathroom. It had a clearing above with perfect view of the stars. A94. That was nice. Personally I always like to be close to the bathroom for convenience however one of my campers with a more finely tuned nose detected an odor (I did not). I chose not to do any campsite cooking but dined at the restaurants (it's a bit of a wait!) since I've never had to wash dishes at my own campsite before without the use of a utilitiy sink. I chose not to bring a basin. Overall a positive experience. Site unfortunately did not have the trees to accommodate a hammock. It felt a bit narrow and you can easily see other campers around you. I went in Sept and there were lots of bees in the bushes but they did not bother us. Also, surprised my site did not have a bear locker. The sunset at the Big meadow lodge is amazing! It was so vividly orange! I did very little hiking. My party had a dog and we always dined outside. Had to order to go when advised the wait would be unknown. I heard busiest season is OCT because of the fall colors and wait times for dining can be 2 hrs long. I would do it again. We traveled in an EV and charging was hard to come by. Entered from the northern entrance and should have planned to arrive earlier because it was a rush to get to Skyland or Big Meadow Lodge since the drive is about an hour and the lunch dining hrs are short. I've eaten at the waysides before and wanted to try something new.

All facilities were in pristine condition. Very clean and the camp sites were marked well. Will definitely come back.

The rangers were very friendly and knowledgeable. We got great advice about trails to hike and sights to see! We met RangerRolf on the top of Stony Man. He pointed out several types of migrating birds. He was so interesting and approachable.
This is the 30th year I have been coming to Shenandoah National Park with my best friend for girl's trips. There is always more to see!

From the entrance gate at Thornton Gap, to the campground, wayside and restaurants everyone did a wonderful job. Friendly and helpful they made my stay special. Thanks, Bill

We camp every year at Big Meadows with our whole extended family!! We enjoy the hiking from easy (Dark Hollow) to more difficult!! Something for everyone of all ages!!
