This special camping area is located in the middle of the Shenandoah National Park. It has clean bathrooms, friendly hosts, ranger talks, and comfortable camp grounds. I went specifically to hike on parts of the AT. Plan on going back again.

While we were at Shenandoah, the fee for the shower increase from 2,50$ to 5,00$ without any notice or sign. None of the attendants present at the reception were aware of the increase. When they found out, they said there was nothing they could do...because it was a third party that was responsible for the showers.

I made the reservation with the State Park, not with any third party so the staff can't answer me that they can't do anything...

In addition, I had great difficulty getting reimbursed for the overspent sums because of the showers.

Rangers at Big Meadows are by far the best out of any NPS places we visit. It is clear that the leadership at this Park, and specifically Big Meadows, is outstanding and should be commended. From friendly greeting and talks to consistent enforcement of regulations, this campground makes me want to come back whenever I can! Thank you to the Big Meadows crew!

Our family really enjoyed our stay at this campground! The facilities (restrooms) were very clean and well-kept. There was nearby access to trails (Story of the Woods, AT), a camp store, and the visitor center. Though a large, bustling campsite, each campsite felt like it had decent seclusion from its neighbors. There is also a dish sink in some restrooms to do your dishes and water spigots near all restrooms.

My boyfriend and I were traveling to Shenandoah National Forest for the first time this past August. We arrived at our campsite after dark, and luckily the signs made it easy to find. We had to use flashlights to get our tent set up and make a fire, but once we were set up the darkness was perfect for a relaxing evening under the stars. In the morning we woke up to a bear in the tree of our campsite. It was super cute and lazy, eating berries and napping. The park rangers were already aware of its presence and assured us we were safe. They eventually got it down from the tree and chased it away which was fun to watch! Check in and check out were very quick and easy and everyone working was very helpful and seemed to enjoy their job!We ate breakfast at the lodge and bought some goodies at the gift shop. We rode our bicycles around a bit and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. The wildflowers were in full bloom and the stops along Skyline Drive were magnificent. It was an overall very pleasant experience. We definitely want to come back soon!
