The campground is pleasant, facilities are well maintained and functioning. Our site was fairly close to neighbors on both sides but was still adequately sized. Every night we heard owls. We often saw deer in the campground. The vendor provided showers are a nice option not always available at National Park Campgrounds and at $5 for 10 minutes reasonably priced. My only concern was the lack of enforcement of "clean camp" rules. Many campers left cookstoves, food service utensils and food containers on the tables while the site was unattended. This is alarming for bear and human safety. While no bear had been sighted in the camp for the season so far that will not remain the case if these rules are not followed and enforced. Quite disappointing for a National Park. Big meadows is centrally located with easy access to some of the best trails in the Park and the AT runs right next to camp. A NPS visitor Center, park store and cafeteria food source are in the complex. An enjoyable visit.

We just enjoyed everything. The site was big and private. Bathrooms were perfectly clean. Nice walking trails right from the campground. Only trouble was my husband's laptop was stolen. He forgot and left it on the picnic table overnight.

Prior to my trip, I'd read a review somewhere that in a prior year the coin-operated showers were only open during the daytime hours. I don't know if that was correct or not at that time, but during my visit as far as I know, they were open 24 hours; this was great as I often left Big Meadows Camp before sunrise and returned well after sunset. Be specific on the website what hours the showers are open and if they close for the season prior to the campground closure. I liked the capability to take a shower (many national parks don't have this, but it is so refreshing) and the central location may reduce the potential wait vs if there were only 1 shower in each restroom (such as Mount Pisgah, NC campground on the Blue Ridge Pkwy) instead of the central arrangement.I enjoyed everything. Walking in the meadow itself was nice since plants interest me, and the ranger guided walk was really good. The person at the campground entrance station told me that the thistle in the campground was field thistle; some is but some is Bull Thistle. They also told me that the volunteers opened Rapidan Camp everyday but thankfully (before I made the long walk) I read the handout from the park service that showed which days it was actually open. I thought the price for a hamburger at the wayside was a little high so I didn't eat there but once. I understand that pricing must be more in remote locations. Big Meadows Camp was convenient for the things I wanted to do: Big Meadows, Hawksbill, Stony Man, Bearfence, and Rapidan Camp.It would be nice if the NPS website had links to more detailed plant & flower info since that is one of my main interests. Most importantly, even though beyond your control Please, Please, Please do not close the national parks during government shutdowns. That is a real inconvenience and a slap in the face to taxpayers. If possible, please pass this along to someone who can appeal to Congress to be considerate of people they are supposed to serve.

Bathrooms were clean; grass needed mowing at campsites (knee high to waist high).

We had a great campsite with trees and a nice picnic table. I didn’t expect that the showers wouldn’t be free but there were restrooms that were usable.

The campground was very full for mid-week in May. There were a lot of generators running in the park. Our area didn't allow them but you could still hear them. Many of the trees around our site were dead, which was disappointing. Firewood prices were stupid, and the wood was wet - of course. At least it was oak, so it burned for a while.
The hiking in the area was very good, and there was abundant wildlife, considering the crowd. It was very peaceful at night - everyone was considerate. The Rangers were very helpful.
