A very nice experience if you dont mind being among a lot of other campers. The setting is beautiful, and they have bear lockers at each site. If you want to shower however, thats outside the campground by the store, and it cost four dollars for a shower; make sure you take a lot of quarters with you.

We have been camping twice a year for over 25 years at Big Meadows campgrounds. This is the first year we experienced an infestation of Gypsy Moth’s. It made it very unpleasant.

Beautiful location and many opportunities to hike nearby. Some sites are small and difficult to maneuver into, and the bathroom was not the cleanest, but overall we had a very nice experience.

The site is conveniently located next to the restroom facility and utility sink room, though the steady foot traffic nearby was not bothersome. There are plenty of shade trees, whether staying in a camper on the asphalt or tent camping on the grass. There are also several trees adequately spaced for a clothesline and/or hammock. The fire pit is a generous-sized steel cylinder design with an attached adjustable grill. The bath house, a large picnic field, and the Lewis River Falls trailhead are all within walking distance. If electricity is needed for medical purposes (e.g. CPAP machine), a park ranger may be able to arrange access to the electrical box (20, 30, and 50 amps) at the Handicap site next door, but bring your own cord (at least 50-100 feet).

BIg meadows exceeded our expectations. The camp ground is situated among trees, clean and was relatively quiet. There is access to hiking trails from the campground. We specifically wanted to hike Old Rag- to get to this trail you do have to leave park and it is a bit of a drive but there is other hiking that is closer. The big meadow for star gazing is right across the street. We had a great time and would definitely go back.
