Their pristine campgrounds had nice amounts of trees and shrubs between the sites. The bear boxes were huge! But careful not to keep chocolate in there because it will melt in the summer. We did not know that you needed 20 quarters for a 10 min shower, but they did have change machines that take $1 and $5 - so bring small bills or quarters! Our favorite hike was Stony Man trail but stay on the Appellation Trail when it branches off. It's the road less traveled but still has stunning views. We hiked the Rose River Trail which was beautiful with 2 miles along side falls but very rough trail with lots of rocks and roots and 900+ ft elevation gain. Our favorite watering hole was the Skyland lodge's outdoor patio (dog friendly and had a bar or two of cell service for Verizon). The lodge has a Starbucks in the lobby and a wonderful gift shop. So many great overlooks, but we really enjoyed the Point Vista overlook just south of Big Meadows Visitor Center.

Nice campground and not many campers at this time of year (early Nov). I was dry camping on site D144, which was pretty level and spacious. Many good hikes from campground including part of the Appalachian trail. Can walk to visitor center from campground. Internet is woefully missing. Walked to the amphitheater to make a call and experienced drop calls. Showers cost $5.00, which I thought was pricey and the water was warm at best. Only 1 dump site, which could be a problem when campground is full. Very beautiful park.

Nice spot overall, one side theres a big gap between sites, but it can be loud because its at the top of loop D, a lot cars passing to get to their camp sites. Very close to the showers and camp store.

We come to big meadows about twice a year. This was the first time the campground has ever ran out of wood on us. Definitely recommend grabbing some extra wood in town when you fill up for gas before heading into the park.
