The rangers were great, addressing my complaint about an RV running a generator overnight, which was loud and in violation of the campground rules. Compared to other stays at campgrounds in Shenandoah, I did not like having to pick a campsite in advance, as the sites varied in quality. I did not ask if it was possible to change once I arrived. Having a shower available was nice and the water was plenty hot. But, the $5 cost seemed excessive, given the campsites are not dirt cheap. It took me 20 minutes to figure out how the shower worked too. Some clear instructions on the wall would be helpful. Hiking & running the Appalachian Trail was my reason for staying at Big Meadows and the convenience of having the trail run right next to the campground was invaluable.

Big Meadows is always beautiful. I had a somewhat rainy visit, but still had a great time.

As others have mentioned, Big Meadows CG is a clean and safe campground located roughly in the center of SNP. The campground sells ice and wood onsite, has multiple restrooms and trash/recycling containers, and clean, hot, showers available (showers are for a fee). The Big Meadows campground area has a lodge, which was nice, that has a restaurant/bar and will sell ice and wood after hours (after 5pm), if needed. This area of the park is also home to the Byrd Visitor Center, Big Meadows Wayside (for supplies) and a gas station. Site B112, which is in a generator free area, is a tight site, sandwiched between a walking trail and another neighboring site (B110). Unfortunately, at the time of my visit, the site was not mowed and the grass was very high, making use of the grass area a bit challenging, especially if you do not have a solid footprint. This site lays out best for a small RV or travel trailer and was not ideal for a roof top tent with annex setup like mine (but it still worked just fine). Overall the location can't be beat and it was a peaceful and nice stay while visiting SNP for a few days.

We have camped at Big Meadows several times over the past 10 years and have always found it to be an excellent getaway from the hustle and bustle of the world. The lack of cell service in the campground is a blessing in disguise as we can take the time to really connect with our family and friends. The Lodge has good food and cell service if it is needed. Big Meadows is the place to camp!!

Nice spots. Although sone were under construction and they still Tried to rent them out. Firewood expensive! For such a big place it was very quiet which was nice. Lots of birds! Several trails accessible from the camp ground!

We had reserved a site for 4 nights. After our first night,a park ranger advised us of the weather conditions due to Ida. We decided to pack up&leave. We informed the ranger of our decision. We thought we would get a refund for the 3 nights. We were told no. A bit disappointed.

Was able to reserve a site Thursday-Friday. After Friday, the sites were showing as FF online. I don't have experience with first come first serve sites, so I called the office ahead of time to make sure we would be able to somehow stay the weekend. The man said to just tell them our intention to stay longer when we arrived and it wouldn't be a problem. We camped Thursday and made sure to get up super early Friday to reconfirm we could stay. Woman said nope all the sites were reserved. We told her the website said FF. I've camped at several NP campgrounds and reserved is always labeled with an x. We would not have drove hours out there for a single night. She responded with "yeah I hate that site. FF just means if someone cancels within 48 hours you are first to take their spot." I know that is NOT how first come first serve sites work. Wish I would have taken a screenshot of the sites when I was reserving to show that the sites would not even allow reservations. We got on the wait list and sat around for a few hours while she called names, but ultimately had to leave around 10:30am without a site since we had plans for the day. Thankfully Shenandoah River Outfitters was the one place in the entire Shenandoah area with a spot left for us to call home for the weekend. Will not be back here.

Lovely facility, well maintained and staffed. As we were leaving for home our car battery died. A sfaff person and a volunteer got it charged up within 30 minutes and were very friendly about the whole thing.

Really nice spot. Just watch out for the bears who like to eat the apples!
