Beautiful, slightly hilly campground with lots of trees and shrubs. Very helpful office and an easy walk to the comfortable and welcoming lodge (about 1/2 mile via Appalachian trail at end of campground).

Everything other than the campground was excellent. The campground could be better, with something like a raised separate platform.

Really nice campground with lots of convenient facilities. There was a grill/fire pit and a picnic table. Bathrooms, dumpsters, and showers (2.50 for 5 min) are nearby. The site we had was not ideal for tents but doable. Its smaller, not much grass, and not flat. Still we had a blast and enjoyed the environment. Will def come back!

Compared to Mathews Arm, this camping had showers, leveled sites, showers, better access to internet and the Elkway store nearby. You could also see more life roaming around the camping. The amphitheatre was more equipped and you had also a laundry. I would definitely come back to to Big Meadows.

This year marks our 42nd year camping at Big Meadows, some years coming twice a year or more.1) Campground needs more one way arrows, a lot of campers driving the wrong way and speeding 2) Campground rules need to be enforced (either by hosts or rangers): cutting through sites, scooters being ridden when they are not allowed, generator hours not enforced, unattended children (playing in bathrooms), abuse of bathroom by adults (trash, leaving faucets on, leaving doors open propped with rocks)3) People parked part way on roadway while on hikes along the drive4) why was the fried chicken recipe changed (told by wayside manager that it was a decision by the NPS, if it isn't broken, it doesn't need to be fixed) 5) why was the meadow (near the entrance to the dump station) cut in early July during peak season? We're the birds, snakes, foxes and kits, sknuks, butterflies, etc considered before their habitat was destroyed?
Helpful Park Service staff. Clean park, clean bathrooms. Always enjoy my time at Big Meadows campground

Big Meadows never fails to be a great place to camp. Just one little note: Site G-209 has a mud-covered thin gravel layer--could use a little more gravel.

I really enjoyed the campground and Shenandoah National Park is amazing. I did have one negative, however, the bathroom were not cleaned during my three day visit. There wasn't anything available for someone to take the initiative with a broom, and with so many precautions being taken with Covid it was unsettling to see a lack of cleaning.

Mobile Data Speed Map
#123
If there are speed tests submitted for a campground the campsite icons will be colored based on the average download speed and the border will be colored based on the average upload speed.
In this example Campsite #123 has very good download speeds and decent upload speeds. If a campsite has a solid yellow color it means there was no data speed detected in the test(s). Clicking on a campsite icon reveals more details.
