Nice campground with great vies of the mountains. Great hiking right out from your site. AT just steps away and two waterfall hikes

I always enjoy this campground! The site was clean and ready for us on the first visit of the season. I think the bathrooms were updated since I was there last time too!

I found an open site at Lewis Mountain (first come, first serve) , so I ended up moving my tent reservation at Big Meadows to that more quiet campground six miles further south on Skyline Drive. However, both Big Meadows and Lewis Mountain continue to be superb places to camp. The facilities are excellent, the Rangers and camp hosts very attentive, and the camps stores convenient and friendly. Shenandoah National Park is a national treasure! Big Meadows has more open sky at the amphitheater and the actual meadows, while Lewis offers ready access to the Appalachian Trail to nearby overlooks facing East for sunrise and South for a hike to Bearfence rock scramble with its 360-degree view.

Wonderfull campsite, next to the Appalachian trial.Spots for RV's not very level, but doable. It is a National Park after all.Watched the stars with a Ranger. Nice!

Great views looking through the trees to nearby mountains from the spot I had near the A.T., and Big Meadows was near many of the locations I wanted to hike. Listening to the wind overnight was great.

Definitely another great time at Shenandoah. My only gripe was not any fault of the parks. The camp sites on E loop are pretty close together on the inner loop and children were just not supervised. Hard to camp when parents are not watching their kids. If you want more privacy I would recommend not staying on the inner loops.

I had relatives with two young kids visiting me from foreign country and never had any camping experiences before. They definitely had a great time at big meadows. The camp ground is well organized. The bathrooms are a short walk. The shower place is slightly far but is not too inconvenient. We arrived late but The lodge was still open. We got our fire woods and ice from the lodge. Big meadows is in the middle of the park. There are numerous hiking trails nearby, hard to easy ones. Many great outlook spots for sunset watch. We also enjoyed star gazing at night at the big meadow. I would come back again.
