You can expect to find the rangers, staff, volunteers and other campers interested on helping you having a positive experience. Campers by their very nature want to help each other enjoy their experience.

Come with change (quarters) and small bills (1s and 5s ) for showers and washing. Changing large bills at night is not reasonable.

Secure your food. If it’s not in front of you it needs to be locked up.

Carry a map of your area while hiking.

Put a note on your dashboard visible through the windshield where. You plan to hike. If alone try to notify someone by text when Your hitting the trail and when you got back. You may have to travel a couple of miles to get a signal but do it.

Secure your keys in a zippered pocket, on your pants or pack. I recently found a set of keys and after a couple hours of trying I found the owners. Lost keys can ruin your trip.

Scent free Baby wipes can make daily body maintenance easy

Carry a 1 gallon ziplock bag for used baby wipes, toilet paper, other waste while on the trail.

Carry a snack, water, a days worth of medication on every hike. Remember the map.

Carry extra socks and keep your feet clean and dry. Learn good foot care.

Check the weather, if you can’t get a signal before leaving camp check with other campers, rangers, camp host. Don’t wake them up but when others are up you can expect them to be helpful. Campers are a team.

Read about the camp ground and surrounding areas. Know what’s available when the weather is not cooperative. (Lauray Caverens)

Ask about ranger led lectures.

Get up early before light and check out the stars and wildlife. Dark is different than day.

If you need to contact “civilization” I found a 2 bar signal at the high point of the picnic found parking lot. Most turnout “overlooks” get a reasonable signal.

CIVILIZATION VS WILDLIFE. I found I feel safer in the wild than around the traffic in the civilized world.
