Wrong information given to me by the person working at the check in place. I was there on a Thursday and asked when the wayside closed. She said 8:00. It actually closed at 5:30!! I also dont understand why the (low pressure) showers cost more money for paying campers.

Tent pad was a little too rocky at my site and was not completely level. This made it difficult to sleep well.

Helpful staff and nice park!! Camping pads need replaced though. Large chunks of asphalt were missing and loose. Bear boxes were clean and well made!

Facilities were excellent, campsite was great. Overall, the campground is great and access to the Byrd Center and Wayside store and restaurant made for a great trip. Would recommend and will use this campground again.

We stayed in the E-Loop at Big Meadows Campground in Shenandoah Park three times this season. We returned for its proximity to the Appalachian Trail, views to the Shenandoah Valley and Piedmont Valley, and the well-run, safe, and clean facilities. During this tumultuous time in our lives, it is heartening to have the constancy and stability of the park to rely on for hiking, ambiance, escape, and grounding. The park has distinctive flora, fauna, and wildlife that tantalize in-between times sitting around the campfire, hiking, and rock-sitting. Easy trails, challenging trails, hikes to summits, and hikes to waterfalls are all available from the Big Meadows area, as well as the rock scramble at Bear Fence. We have also taken a park-sponsored bus ride down to Camp Roosevelt for a guided visit to that historic fishing camp. I've visited the park for nearly 50 years and am pleased that I now live within 30 minutes of an entrance to the park and a few more minutes to an Appalachian Trail access point. I can never get enough.

There was no place to put a tent. The entire site was sloped. The bathrooms were run down. The water locations were in the middle of other peoples sites. Not the worst campground I’ve ever been at, but probably the worst for a national park.
