While we understand that Shenandoah is quite popular, and the NPS wants to provide access to many people, these campgrounds were likely designed many years ago and are long overdue for an overhaul. Too many people in too many campgrounds that sited are too close together. There was only one spot to pitch at tent at our assigned spot. It was the lowest spot on the site and filled with water due to rain. In addition, RVs and generators surrounded us on all sides, all running their generators all within 5-10 feet of the tent. We fail to understand why the bathrooms were not clean and also in need updating. We also spent time 2 weeks earlier in the Smokies, and fail to understand why RVs and tent campers are mixed together in the early spring season at these two parks. Constant generator noise blocks out the experience of the outdoors and there is no reprieve from the noise from early morning to 8pm.If you want to experience the outdoors, we recommend looking to National Forests or state parks to find the "peace of wild things" or go back country camping.

We had 2 adjoining sites to camp with family for the week and a lodge suite for 2 adults with a 2 year old and 11 month old. We hiked right from the campground or took a short drive summit Hawksbill. There were easy walks to great spots for viewing the sunrise and could pull off at many lookouts on Skyline Drive to see amazing sunsets. It was a great week in a beautiful park!
