I love this campground! It's right in the middle of the park, more or less, and has everything you need, from firewood at the wayside, showers, and most tent campsites are fairly private

The Big Meadows campground does a good job of separating the RV/generator campers from the walk-in tent campers like us. Great waterfall hikes are near this centrally located campground, including Rose River Falls, White Oak Canyon falls, South River Falls, Dark Hollow Falls, and Lewis Falls. The White Oak Canyon Trail-Cedar Run Trail loop was the hardest but most rewarding with five waterfalls viewable from the trail (a sixth wasn't really viewable to us). Lewis Falls was a bit underwhelming, at least this time of year (early fall). Rangers at the Visitor Center have great maps, recommendations, and attitudes.

Always a fantastic experience here. Great sites. Close to a variety of good hikes and overlooks. Proximity to the lodge is great for the pop up rainstorm or just to grab a bite if you don't wanna cook all meals.
