Climate change has shifted the seasons--my visit in November was blessed with warm summery weather along with fewer crowds. I also appreciate the clean, smoke-free air that made this month an ideal time to visit. Don't forget to thank all the friendly folk of the National Park Service!

Loved the storage bins on the campsites! Along with safe storage, they also minimize the opening and closing of car doors! Great showers (though a bit pricey); great laundry, beautiful setting and great starting point for many hikes and bike rides!

Beautiful location, friendly and helpful staff, plenty of deer roaming around.

Walk-in site is great, facilities also very good.
We've been here before & usually neighbors are all peaceful & respectful of others, especially if they arrive late at night.
However, our last night was extremely unrestful- as a group arrived next to us well after quiet hours & proceeded to set up amis what seemed like flood lights (our site looked like daylight from their light pollution) and once set up, that's when the party started - food drinking & loud laughter well into the night.
All campers should have fun & enjoy themselves, but not at the expense of others.
Respect for all.....

We stayed at Big Meadows for 4 days and it did not disappoint. The campground was well-laid out and clean. We camped at a hike-in tent spot, #19, which was nice and big. The convenience of the facilities at this campground were also nice (gas, fried chicken at the store, firewood, etc.).
Around this campground was some of our favorite hikes in Shenandoah, albeit some of the most popular too. Stony Man Mountain hike is an easy, rewarding vista hike, along with the slightly more challenging Hawksbill Mountain. If waterfalls are more your jam, Dark Hollow falls is a shorter hike with nice waterfall views next to the falls. Rose River was also a great nearby hike, but bring water shoes to swim, it's rocky! Whiteoak Canyon was fun too and not as daunting as the mileage may suggest. Also, if you are camping without much of a moon, head to the meadow late at night, the stars are AMAZING!
Out of all of the campgrounds we stayed at in Shenandoah, Big Meadows was by far our favorite!
