Walk-in, tent only sites were a little closer to the regular sites than I expected. Otherwise it was great. Coupla good hikes and a beautiful drive.

For being a large campground did not feel overwhelming. Water was occasionally off but not too much of inconvenience. Nice hot showers. Centrally located.

Very private walk in tent spots are #44 and #46.The campground is close to loads of things to do.Find wifi and cell service at the lodge.

It's a beautiful place to camp. The walk-in sites are especially nice. You're also within walking distance of the lodge, where you can get a decent dinner or check out the gift shop. (They have a slot for mail too, if you want to send a postcard.) The staff here is also great and were very happy to answer questions. My only complaint has to do with the showers. They cost $2.50 and only accept coins, which is a problem because there are literally no ATMs on Skyline Drive--I asked. If you did not bring cash into the park, you will have to leave and come back before you can take a shower. Again, the staff did what they could to offer suggestions, but they ultimately could not do anything to help. This is incredibly inconvenient, and the park service could vastly improve the experience by simply not charging for the showers. $30 should be more than enough for a 5-10 minute shower.

We go here every year at the end of August (except 2020). We were very happy with our experience except for all the barking dogs. We took a dog too and she never barked. She growled but we assured her it was okay and she went on with her day. Unfortunately, this was not the case for many dogs at the campground. On each side of us (tent only 34) the people had 2 dogs that they just let bark! One would drive and the dogs would bark out the window and you could hear them even at the bathhouse(presumably). There were also dogs farther away that would bark during the night. Other than that the bathrooms were clean and masks were required in the building. The wood was not wet but I would say a little on the green side. The showers were raised to $2.50 for 5 minutes from$1.75 but it was a hot shower so we were happy.
Also, Lewis Falls was a nice hike that was basically empty. The waterfall is a side view but you can enjoy the top part that has a stream that feeds to it. It may not be that great sometimes but we went after it had been raining for many days. The hike took us (2 adults, 2 children 10&6) about 3.5 hours but we chilled out at the waterfall for about 30 minutes. It’s quite a hike back since it’s a little uphill and sometimes rocky.

The facilities were excellent. The National Park Service staff were all very professional and very helpful. The only thing that prevented our trip from being excellent overall was the group in the camp site next door to ours who were making noise until 1 am. They didn't even start eating dinner until after the 10 pm quiet time cut off. The entire rest of the camp ground was quiet except for campsite 33. I realize NPS has limited control over inconsiderate guests in the middle of the night. Everything associated with the Park Service was excellent.
