The camp site itself was wonderful and the surroundings and scenery were amazing. But the stench from the vault toilets wafted all the way across camp and really ruined the experience. There's a little sign on the door saying basically "please close the lid and the door when you're done" but you can't rely on other campers to actually do that. There didn't seem to be any of that chemical down in the pit for helping with the smell. This was really a major let-down. I take my kids camping 2 to 3 times every year and have been to many places, and never had to deal with the stench of human waste while trying to enjoy dinner by the camp fire, until this tip. I didn't expect it to be the Hilton up there, and I didn't expect showers and flush toilets or anything. But at least manage the stench from the vault pits with adequate suppression. This was inexcusable and turned a 5 star rating into 2 stars for us.

The campground was quiet and clean. Our site was very nice, with a clean bear box. We enjoyed talking to Randy, the camp host, although the directions he gave us to see the Stagg Tree were not quite correct. We never did find the tree. When we got home, we consulted Google maps and saw that we should have turned right after the gate at 5.2 miles, not left. Then the road bends back around to the left and we would have found the parking lot in a mile or less. We met other people on the unpaved old logging road who had followed the same incorrect directions.

Very high up in elevation. The secluded campsite made it fun to interact with others. The river is 3min away from the campsite and was very relaxing waking up to it. Although the campsite is about 2hrs drive to get into all the sites of Sequoia National Park. Entrance for Sequoia was $35 as well
