This was my 2nd time staying at Hume Lake Campgrounds. First time was July, 2020 (Covid times) and recently in late September, 2024. Both were great with little crowd and noise. The bugs were minimal, except for the "meat bees" that were only annoying during breakfast hours. We did have a Bobcat pass by camp, saw a few tarantulas crossing the road on the way up (none at our campsite!) and in the morning lots of deer on the path to the lake. BE ADVISED... you can't bring firewood from outside the park, and you can't buy it inside, so you'll have to forage. We found enough for two nights at Boyden Cavern, off of the 180, not far from Hume Lake. I thought about bringing my Ryobi battery powered chainsaw, but didn't. If I had, we probably would have been fine foraging the campground. Hindsight is 20/20 ;)On the other side of the lake is the Christian Camp. There is a General Store that is stocked with food, ice, souvenirs, camping gear, and, most importantly, gas pumps! I love this location because of the lake, it is close to General Grant, Mist Falls, Roaring River Falls (both are an amazing hike!) You will definitely want a head net for the gnats if you hike these trails. People were offering me money to buy mine. The gnats are very annoying if you don't have one. When heading back down, or up General's Hwy, there are so many trails to walk through and get up close to the Giant Sequoias. General Sherman is along that road, but I don't recommend going there on a weekend, unless you go super early. Even during Covid 2020 when I saw him last, there were a lot of people. This time (late September) I attempted on a Saturday around 1pm, on my way home, and the line of cars waiting to get in felt like leaving a huge concert. I declined and turned around. It's worth a stop at the Giant Forest Museum.ALSO... Weather in this area is unpredictable. Had an unexpected thunderstorm, the camp got drenched. Something to consider before leaving for a hike.

Clean and quiet. I would recommend for sure.

Campground ideally located near Hume Lake. The site was good, utilities basic but well maintained.Only issue (not for the campground though) was that there was no phone coverage and no Wi-Fi. Only WiFi was too expensive : 20$/24 hours in Hume Lake village.
