We had a wonderful time at Glacier View campground at Redfish Lake. After going to Redfish for many years we have determined after Labor Day is the best time to go....SO much quieter. We had reservations (made a 1 day reservation because after that day all campgrounds were first come, first serve) at Glacier View-easier to get but, we like Outlet campground because it is so close to the lake. When we arrived at 3pm we drove through Outlet Campground looking for an open site. We saw a few openings (they had tags with the leave date of the day we arrived.) We choose our spot and went to look for the campground host. He/She was no where around and it looked like they had not been there for a day or so (pine needles over their rug and chairs). We went back to our site and discovered another tag under the top tag we saw that showed it would be available....The underneath tag showed that a reservation was made for that day. Why does someone not come by to change the tags? If the host is gone for the day they need to get someone else to change the tags! We were disappointed but we did have a reservation at Glacier overlooking the creek-where we later saw a bald eagle fly over. Glacier is very nice and the campground host for Loop A was very nice and always around doing his job. Whoever has the current campground lease should give this guy a raise and have a chat with the Outlet campground host. Activities: we mtn biked the Elk Meadows trail by Stanley Lake, hiked to Garland Lakes up Rough trail (past Mormon Bend campground. 4 mile rd to drive, 5 miles to Lakes and the new Cecil Andrus Wilderness area) and on a rainy day explored the Custer ghost town and saw the Gold Dredger that has been restored. An engineering feat for the late 1800-early 1900 but what a path of destruction it left!
