The volunteer Ranger was so kind and helpful. The site was beautiful and the campground was so clean and well set up. We loved it! It was just what we needed.

Black Canyon is a hidden gem. Just seven miles outside of Santa Fe, up a little canyon is a nice little campground. It lies on a bit of a hillside, so they have carved out little flat areas for each campsite. We stayed in site 16 and had plenty of room for our 33 5th wheel and our truck. The camp host was welcoming and friendly. The only downside of this campground was that the road was not too wide and it was difficult to get our 5th wheel backed into the spot.

Bad caterpillar outbreak

Our site, #16, was very nice with easy back-in. There was plenty of room for our 25' Class C. The only issue we had was there is no water in the park due to infrastructure issues that are being worked on. So, there is no water available in the area. We were able to dump at the Hyde Memorial State Park dump station about 1/2 mile up the road. The rangers need to unlock the gate for you and the fee is $10. We would come back here because it is a beautiful, quiet campground and an easy drive into Santa Fe.

Beautiful CG with plenty of shade and cooler temps. Our experience was dampened by the infestation of caterpillars which is of no fault of anyone. They got on everything so we had to wipe them off all stuff before leaving. Host was very nice and knowledgeable. Well be back.

There was an outbreak of the Douglas-Fir Tussock Moth Caterpillar this year and we camped among thousands of caterpillars which can make you sick. They even dropped from the trees. We could not get away from them and they did make us ill. While we were there one child in the campground had to go to the ER due to the caterpillars. The campground itself is beautiful and would have been a lovely place to camp but the caterpillars caused us to stay inside the camper for our whole trip. Would have been nice to know about them before we made our reservations.

This is a small but lovely campground, 15 minutes east of Santa Fe. The sites i stayed in were very clean and wooded. Highly recommended!

So clean, and the hosts were friendly. Amazing first time camping with our young kiddos.

The campground host(ess) on duty was a "whack job"... she was rude... arrogant...and generally lacks the personality that becomes a campground host. If she is there on a future visit to Black Canyon, and I have a pre-paid reservation, I will ask her not to come around me, or my family. Worst encounter with a campground host, in MANY years of camping ! She should be banned from any future assignments.

Great forest service campground only about 25 minutes from Santa Fe Plaza. Large & shaded sites. Know that it is DRY, no water at all. Generator hours 8 am - 10 pm.

It's Paradise on Earth! The camp-host was friendly and knowledgeable. We can't wait to go back!

Very nice forest service campground not far from Santa Fe. The sites are large with plenty of privacy. Not sure why no potable water was available - so bring water with you. Only negative is no phone service but they do have a public phone if needed.
