We happened to be there during a Douglas fir caterpillar super outbreak. Caterpillars covered everything - table, stove, tent, chairs, luckily didn't get into our tent, but it was super creepy.

The sites at Black Canyon are well maintained, the facilities there are clean, and the area is beautiful. We have enjoyed every visit to Black Canyon that we have made in the past few years and look forward to returning for many more. The camp hosts are very nice, thoughtful and make the experience all the more enjoyable.

Beautiful site next to trailhead; Black Canyon is a small but tree filled campground. Campground host was wonderful. Bathrooms were clean but smelly--could use a deodorizer?

Everything about our stay was so enjoyable. The site is perfect, beautiful and quiet. The landscaping, fire pit and table are all just what we needed for a weekend getaway. The hosts, Debra and Rick were so friendly and welcoming. I can't wait to go back.

One of my favorite parks. Very little road noise. Nice big paved sites with fire pits. I like the Black Canyon loop, but keeping going just a little further to a trail on the crest of the range. Great place to watch a sunrise or sunset.

This is a lovely campground. My site was beautiful but also busier than most because it is next to hiking trail

Beautiful site, quiet place, no "vistas" but good to get up to the mountain.

We love this campground. The host, this summer of 2021 is a very nice host. Having a great host make us feel comfortable during our stay. There are many hiking trails very close to the campground. The Black Canyon head trail, starts right on the campground and it is a nice and sweet trail. We just enjoy leaving the city and enjoy nature for a weekend.

A beautiful campground with lovely sites. So happy to have discovered this gem so close in Santa Fe. A terrific experience (except for one barking dog that was not stopped, which shattered the late morning peace & quiet). Also, the restroom smelled really bad so I was very glad I didn't need it due to my completely self-contained camping style.

What a great location. Depending on what you are using to camp, this could be great or you might want to skip it altogether. There is NO water, anywhere! You'll need to stop at the Fire Dept. at the bottom of the mountain. There is NO Electricity. The dump station on the highway is STATE, whereas Black Canyon is FEDERAL and the state wants you to pay to dump There are no pull thrus and most of the sites are either short or VERY short. There are a lot of tent campers there so it's really pretty quite without generators or kids.We try to go up each summer with our little trailer and use the campgrounds as a base to visit Santa Fe or the area. You'll need to do more homework on this but If you don't need the power or water you will like the layout and landscaping of the campground, and really enjoy being 20 minutes from Santa Fe.
