I'm from Colorado - 3rd time I've stayed here and love the campground - this was a very disappointing trip, however, because of an infestation of the Tussock Moth - couldn't stay outside at all - the camper and grounds were a constant maintenance headache - no time for enjoyment - many campers, especially those in tents on the ground got terrible rashes - even though I and my fellow travelers cleaned the RVs to a fault, we still ended up with a few stragglers when we arrived home, where we have ponderosas also - last thing I want to do is transport an infestation - while I understand "nature happens", my beef is that Rec.gov did not alert me prior to allow me the option to cancel the reservation - they've cancelled me in the past due to wildfires, so I don't understand why the lack of communication in this situation

This is such a peaceful campground. One of my new favorites. Love the hiking trail. We ended up staying almost a week

Wonderfull experience as usual! Ive been coming here for years. I was concerned about getting a space because the campsites were filled in advance, but the camp host did a great job in helping me find a site.

Water was not available after calling weeks before arrival when we were told water would be available. We made it ok. The campsite was very good and we enjoyed our stay.

10 degrees cooler than SF. Beautiful pines and birch trees. Sites are private but most have short drives for cars under 20 ft. A few have double drive. The Latrenes were had not been emptied for several weeks, even aft Memorial Day. Camp host said the contractor is 3-4 weeks behind. And air smells like a dirty behind. Also some sites are FF, some RO and some hybrid. Very confusing.

We really enjoyed this campground. It is very clean and just the right amount of space and facilities. We liked having a trailhead within the campground, too. Accessibility to the beautiful aspen trails further up the road was a nice surprise for us, too.

The only negative you can't control is the rainy conditions didn't allow us to sit outside much at night.

We hope to be back someday.

Black Canyon Campground is a beautiful place to camp. It's the starting point to several hikes, including into the canyon, that range from challenging to easy.
The only complaint I might have is the toilets. We stayed in a couple of other camp grounds in Colorado a few weeks before and, somehow, the toilets were fly free and almost odor free. You could smell he toilets at Black Canyon from the campground loop road before going inside and they had plenty of flies in them . Not sure what makes the difference- possibly more people using them?

Our site was beautiful and there was a nice trail leading out from the campground. It was only about 15 minutes from Santa Fe. Will go back there again!
