It is so beautiful, and each campsite was separated by trees.

Pretty campground on a beautiful lake. Some sites are really just places along the road without any privacy, especially those with power.

Haviland Lake campground as a whole is really nice - quiet, decently spaced sites, well maintained, with a perfect little lake for kayaking. However, site 15 is listed as having a tent pad online and 100% does not. This is an RV site in a tight RV loop with little privacy. There's no good place to pitch even a small tent. The camp hosts were on duty but nowhere to be found, so I ended up leaving a note and moving sites myself. I moved to 22, which is a FCFS tent site that was private and peaceful. Sites in Loop A have awesome views of the lakes, and sites in the other loops are tucked in the aspens. Just wish the site-specific amenities listed online were accurate.

It was a fantastic place! We were first met by park hosts, very nice and informative, both hosts. Beautiful place, the lake not as low as we thought, pleasantly surprise. Park grounds are wonderfully maintained, clean facilities...thank you hosts!
If you snag a w/f site, even better! Durango/ Silverton are great places to see! Stayed 3 extra days, lucky us! Highly recommend!

We have loved camping at Haviland Lake for the past 23 years! However, we find it increasingly difficult to navigate the reservation process. Without photos and accurate site descriptions and dimensions, it's challenging to plan your campout ahead of time.
Many of the sites are superb in terms of space and view; however, some are clearly substandard. And, from the website descriptions, it's sometimes impossible to know the difference. In our recent visit, we reserved site 15 in Loop D, not realizing it was a very small site barely large enough for a tent; plus, the site is located adjacent to the road (which means it runs parallel to the road with NO space in between)! By the time we arrived and saw what site 15 looked like, the only recourse we had was to rent a double site for $60/night. (Additionally, park pass discounts do not apply to the double sites.) The park hosts were apologetic and tried to be helpful, but there was little they could do once we had arrived since there was limited site availability. We have other friends that love this park, and have camped there many times over the past couple of decades. But, they too have encountered the same problems we have mentioned here, and like us, would appreciate improvements in the reservation process by Recreation.gov. Thanks in advance for your attention to this matter!
