This park has it "together", but that said-- one has to select a site very carefully. And, toilet facilities are not created equally in this park. Some loops have flushing toilets while others have outhouses.

We were able to get sites for 2 nights via cancellations. Hiked to Cub Lake, but 2020 forest fire meant the lake was surrounded by dead trees. Good news was that we had much of the 5 mi. RT hike to ourselves. Trail Ridge Rd. was spectacular.

We were there when the fires were close. All the rangers were extremely helpful in keeping us informed of our safety. We love coming to Rocky Mountain National Park and have been camping here for over 40 years. We are in our 60's and still find tent camping so great in RMNP. The elk were so great to hear during the night and you just do not get that in any form of camping except tent camping. Also the restroom facilities in our sight were great.

Lack of tree cover created some pretty hot tents during the day, but overall the campsite was clean and well maintained. Camp sights are average in size and privacy. Bathroom closures were inconvenient and created long walks to the open facilities.
