This was our first time at RMNP. We had a wonderful experience. The campground was beautiful and well maintained. Elk and deer walked right through nearby. The park rangers we interacted with were friendly and helpful. The Discovery Center around the corner was really cool too. We did realize later that loop B, where we stayed, only has vault toilets, but loops C and D have bathrooms with running water! So we would take that into consideration next time!

Campground location is great. Loops A,C, and D have nice bathroom facilities. Elk were often very close to the campground.

$30 (going up to $35/night for pit toilets with no electricity in them??!! You have to juggle a lantern or flashlight at night while you're trying to go, and there are no hooks or counters to put your lantern on when you're in there. I pity the moms who were trying to take their children in there! Not even a washing station for your hands outside the outhouse. There are literally NO garbage cans in the camp area, except at the entrance to the campground. This is unacceptable! There is such a bear issue, and garbage needs to be put away securely at night, they should have garbage cans much more available. The campsite literature says not to do your dishes at camp, use only a proper disposal recepticle for your dish-water, but NONE IS PROVIDED!! The campground on the West side at least has a sink available to wash at.The campground sign said it was full, and in making reservations we could only find a couple sites open for one night, but when we were there EASILY half of the campground was vacant. If people aren't showing up for their reservations, or are cancelling, they really should open those sites up for first-come-first serve to make use of them. It was very poorly utilized facility, and obivously the 'reservation' system is not working. People are being turned away (told the campground is full) when half of it is vacant. Uncool, US gov!

Beautiful views. Wish the toilets had plumbing, but that's about it.

The gate attendant was friendly and welcoming. Campsite was in a forested area, basic (no showers/flush toilets) but had picnic table, grill and tent area big enough for both of our small tents. Noisy elk bugled much of night, and an owl hooted persistently before daybreak. Another camper said he saw a bear in the area. The campground was conveniently near the Fern Lake trailhead to the Pool. We also enjoyed Old Fall Ridge Road, Trail Ridge Road and the Flattop Mountain trail the next day. The weather was perfect, not too hot or cold.

We enjoyed the campsite however each site is too close to one another. The density should be half what it is currently. On the first night we had one group near us stay up way past 10:00 PM. They were not being disruptive, just at that altitude and time of night sound is amplified. The next night at a different site near by a baby kept crying through out the night.

Even a thousand words will not be able to describe all my emotions from the impressions of my first camping experience in life. THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!

Great campground in a great park, I highly recommend it. Keep an eye on which loops only have pit toilets and follow instructions about where to keep your food. They are not kidding about the bears.
