Even though it's a bit crowded spring is the perfect time of year. The campground is lush and green. It's quiet with hot showers and a store nearby. The sites are big and seem to be level for the most part. We'll be back (if we're lucky to get a spot).

FYI,it is not listed on this site when you reserve, but you also have to pay an auto fee either on your way in or out. We had to pay an additional $30 for parking per vehicle.Free showers are great.Seems website is not kept up to date. No one answers when you call. The site stated that the pool closed on Sept 30, and we camped on October 11-13 only to find it open, but of course we didn't have bathing suits since the site stated otherwise.No fires were allowed to to high fire danger. Makes camping boring though we fully support this.

Space 16 was semi-private: open area with clear line of sight to next campground so we faced our van door facing opposite direction. We could hear the creek behind our site. Near restrooms and trash bins but no smell nor noise from foot traffic. Note that this space is along the main route to many of the other campsites so expect a lot of through traffic. It didn't bother us. Camp store was well stocked and the employees very friendly. Restrooms were clean but no soap, paper towels, nor toilet seat covers. Didn't use the showers. Trails were well maintained with plenty of restrooms and water stations for refilling water bottles. Would definitely come back to hike more trails. Spotted 2 condors from the campsite.

Nice campground, and much of it is very shaded

Campsite 16 is fairly small and close to the next site. Creek and bridge run behind site. Shaded in some area. Trash is walking distance and fairly close to rest rooms. Campground inside the park and short walk to the shuttle make it worth it.

Beautiful place full of wildlife, the campground is excellent, clean bathrooms and free showers, the swimming pool is great, friendly staff. Beware of the raccoons, ground squirrels, and bluejays who are gonna want to steal your food!

I was not pleased to find almost the entire first campground loop, where I was camping, taken over for two nights by a huge group of teenagers, 4 tents per site (all tents identical, so they clearly were all in the same group), 2 people per tent -- that's what group campsites are for. The only good thing was that by 9:30 or so each evening, they finally did stop their almost incessant yelling, cheering, applauding, etc. But the small bathroom building is not built to accommodate that kind of crowd! (Pinnacles' campground doesn't have enough bathroom facilities as it is, and even worse, the bathrooms in the next loop were closed for construction, temporarily replaced by a few rather disgusting porta potties.)

Very nice campground! Clean flushing restrooms, showers (near the camp store) and swimming pool. No bears to worry about, but the raccoons are a problem! We were sitting 10 feet away from our picnic table at night in front of a nice sized campfire and the coons would jump up on the table looking for food! Just be aware and properly store your food in the provided lockers or a secure vehicle.

Who thought Camping in December would be so awesome. We spent 2 nights (Friday & Sat), at Pinnacles campground. The campgrounds and restrooms were clean. The park office was very helpful in telling us when and where to get the best views of the Condors, and the Camp store was well stocked. The cell coverage was zero but you can buy Wi-Fi for a reasonable charge. We arrived Friday around 3pm, and went straight to the Bear Gulch Cave Trail and looped back around via the Reservoir. Then went to our site to set up camp (#16) - in the dark. Wasn't so bad. Water, restrooms, trash, recycling were close by. The camp was pretty quiet and not too crowded. Saturday morning, woke up to FROST on the tent and camp gear. 25 Deg. F. (A bit colder than the weather had forecast. But once the sun hit the camp, it warmed up quickly. We drove out to Old Pinnacles Parking Area and did a 9 mile loop through the Balconies Cave, Juniper Canyon, Tunnel, and High Peaks trails where we stopped for a 1/2 hour snack. At that elevation we were literally SWARMED with Condors - everywhere! I have a photo of 7 condors in 1 frame. Wanting to get back and start dinner before dark, we headed down Blue Oak Trail back to Old Pinnacles Parking. Drove back to our camp site and started a nice warm fire while I broiled up some steak and veggies. Two bottles of wine later, we started in on the whiskey. Don't remember much after that except that I slept VERY well. Left on Sunday morning after a nice hearty Steak and Eggs breakfast. This was the first time my Girl Friend had Car camped and despite the cold Saturday morning, she was totally delighted with the whole experience and is begging me to take her on another great adventure. As a reward for our strenuous hike, we scheduled a Thai massage back home. I think I've created a monster! See ya next time.

The campground is wonderful! I have been there many times and all the services are run very well.

On Friday Dec 10th, just after dark. A ranger approached my site, did not announce himself and had no light source. I had to ask him who he was. He said he was just making sure I was not gathering wood. Then he proceeded to do the same to my neighbors. I would expect a ranger to announce themselves when they enter my site especially when it is dark.

The campground itself was fair but the bathrooms could use some maintenance. Locking up the dump station and having to go into the store to get a key was very strange, especially with a waiting line; the person who just finished goes into the store to return the key and the next person is right behind them to get the key. The attendant even asked how many gallons were going to be dumped. The hikes in the park were good however; just remember to take PLENTY OF WATER!

This is a very nice campground set in a fantastic location. Be sure to explore the Bear Gulch Reservoir Trail, it's an easy one and awesome! The only down part for me were the bathrooms, they were not very well kept, they were dirty and smelled bad. There was only ONE coin operated shower for the WHOLE campground. Yes, you've read right, only ONE shower for a big campground with over a hundred sites. So, plan accordingly!

Loved this campground! We stayed in site 15 but while there it was changed to site 16. Great location. Very quiet yet close to the restroom and water. We had good shade in the day.
Close to an open field for star gazing at night!

We had a good time, but only stayed one night because of extreme heat that weekend117 degrees. It definitely would have been more fun if the pool was open, but you know-2020 rules. The manager Michael was super helpful!
@AshleyP2874745 · Camped on Aug 28, 2020 at Campsite #16
The campground is very open, we found it easy to socially distance. It is about 40 minutes hiking to the actual entrance to the park, and a couple hours (around 4 miles if I remember correctly) to the bear gulch area. We had a great time, it was really hot but there were places to fill up water at Bear Gulch.

My experience at Pinnacles have always been 4 stars or above but this time it was really bad. First of all, weather was really hot (105 F) which I can understand is in no ones control. Secondly, this time the raccoons made our experience worse. They were all over the campground and since our site was near the creek, that was their hiding spot too. After the sundown, they started showing up every now and then for food and we have scare them away. It was not my fun getting up every 10-15 min to do that. Also I bought a pet with me and at night not sure if they smelled the pet or their canned food, they ripped our tent and came inside. It was in time that I woke up else who knows what would have happened. The National park committee needs to take some action on the raccoon situation as they are making it harder to like the park.
