Thanksgiving is busy here. Be prepared for cold nights! Many are tent camping. Firewood is a must. The campsite Loop D was mainly at the low valley flat surface. Good night views for stargazing. The bathroom was out of order though, for at least one night.

This review is for Site #47: We camped for 3 nights (Th-Sun) in a toy hauler RV that is about 24 pin-to-bumper. This spot was fairly narrow and at a junction, which made backing in more of a challenge, but once we got positioned it was okay. Remember to fill your water tank before you park, too! The spot is sunny until early afternoon, then shaded by a large oak tree. It backs to a creek, with oak and scrub trees immediately behind the site. There is a family of raccoons that live in the oak tree and we saw them every night - be prepared and they are no big deal. If you leave out food, trash, or anything smelling like food, they will pick you apart like buzzards on roadkill! It is better to just admit that they are better at this than you and take the appropriate precautions! There was an amazing variety of wildlife at the campground. We saw deer, turkeys, raccoons, quail, bunnies, hawks, and even a bobcat. We also saw 4-6 condors soaring on the updrafts from the ridge immediately south of the campground every evening. The hikes are great, but our real goal was the talus caves. We did Bear Gulch cave (this is a fairly short hike at about 2.3 miles round trip) and Balconies Cave (this was a 7.8 mile round trip). Take lots of water and a flashlight or headlamp. There is some stairs/scrambling, mainly in Balconies cave. And, keep an eye out for the bats! That was a treat. And, if you do Balconies cave, make sure to do the Balconies Cliff trail - the views are amazing!

Campsite 40: difficultly parking trailer due to narrow road & entry for truck & trailer. unable to open pop-up trailer because trees need to be trimmed back. lots of flies & bees. Note: was able to relocate for a $10 fee. Campsite 47: easy to park & plenty of shade in the morning to mid afternoon. lots of flies & bees. unfortunate that group campers in neighboring loop were noisy.Note: the loop behind Loop B was occupied by an organized camp. both the organizers & campers were very loud throughout the day & well into the the quiet hours. left 2 nights early due to the excessive noise & was refunded $44.80 (campsite was $40/night)

The camp ground was ok, we had a decent spot with some shade. Its very odd that they want you to shower before entering the pool, yet they only have pay showers. And there was only one open shower stall in the women's bathroom, the second stall was broken. Bathrooms were pretty nice for a camp ground, and they had hand soap which not all of them do. The caves were still closed which was disappointment and the trail to the reservoir was extremely high traffic, but over all it was a nice time and I do not regret booking the trip.
