It’s our favorite camping place. It’s the cleanest camping place we have ever been, the bathrooms included!! We always have a blast here. We will always come back here!
The location is remote and offers beautiful views within a short hike from the campground. There is zero cell coverage from AT&T, so this place could be a wonderful place to disconnect and relax with friends and family.
So why only a 3-star rating? The area directly to the north of the campground is apparently some kind of Mecca for dirt bike and ATV enthusiasts with seemingly unlimited dispersed camping opportunities. And during our stay at Round Mountain, the Motorsports enthusiasts were less than respectful of those of us seeking quiet relaxation in nature. Despite ample signage stating that Off Highway Vehicles (OHVs), meaning dirt bikes and ATVs, were prohibited in and around the Round Mountain campground, there was what seemed to be a constant stream of OHVs racing through the campground at all hours of the day and night to use the vault toilets and get water from the pump. I also have to note that the camp host, Keith, made a heroic effort to enforce the rules and keep the OHVs and their riders out of the campground, but he was just one guy trying to hold back the tides.
So there is significant potential for this to be a great campground, but keep in mind your actual experience here may depend on how considerate the OHV crowd to the north of the campground decides to be during your stay.
