I've camped at White Star for at least 25+ years. The campground has always been super clean. We arrived Monday and Left Friday. This time the bathrooms weren't cleaned from Tuesday thru Thursday Morning. The toilet paper ran out. Someone had diarrhea in the bathroom on Tuesday. Making the experience very unpleasant. Maybe it's the cutbacks?

This was our second year going to White Star and both years there has been no potable running water anywhere on the campground. Last year (2020) there were very large (300 gal?) tanks brought in for campers to use, but this year there was no water at all. If the water situation is not resolved next year we definitely wont pay the fee when we could go to dispersed camping for free and get almost the same accommodations. We tent camp but have our own port-a-potty, so the vault toilets are not any better. Even when there is potable water, the campground has no showers. Other than the lack of water and showers, its a very nice campground. If I were in a camper, I would have no complaints about this campground. Each site in the Valley Loop and Ridge Loop has plenty of space away from the next site so you have some privacy. It is hilly and rocky, but hey, its in the Rocky Mountains, what do you expect? Sage Loop is closer to the Lakes and the sites are closer together, flatter, and more open than the other two loops. The camp hosts this year were very friendly and helpful, especially Bob. Our reservation was a little messed up and Bob was very helpful in telling us what our options were. Other than lots of chipmunks and a few birds, we saw no wild animals in the campground, but did hear coyotes in the distance at night a couple of times. I really like this campground and would like to give it a higher rating, but the lack of water and showers really is a bad deal for tent campers who are there for over a week.

Great location, very clean campground, the host and her husband were extremely helpful and had great knowledge of the local area. We loved White Star and will be back many times.

I really like that most of the campsites are very large. The campground is very close to the Twin Lakes General Store, which is also a positive feature. We rode our bikes to the store on a couple of occasions. It's also very close to the lakes and there are some boat (kayak, canoe, paddle board) rental places nearby. The lake water is quite cold, but people do get in it. Most of the campsites are flat, but some are on a steep grade. Of course that happens when you camp in the mountains. There are a lot of great hiking trails nearby: the Colorado Trail, the Continental Divide Trail, the Mt. Elbert trail, the Interlaken Trail, to name a few.Unfortunately there are no showers at this campground, and no where besides the latrines to dump your grey water. This year there was also no running water from the drinking water pumps, which was quite disconcerting. We were given notice about this on the website, so we brought about 15 gallons of our own water, but I was worried we would run out since we there for a week. However, drinking water was brought into the campground via several 300 gallon tanks, so we were able to replenished at the campground when we ran out. Not all of the campsites have a view of the lakes, as the reservation site might suggest. None of the campsites in Valley Loop have a view of the lakes. Some of the campsites on Ridge Loop have a view, and many of the campsites on Sage Loop have a view. The views of the mountains and lakes are amazing. The amount of stars to see at night is also quite awe inspiring.
