We were camping with friends and had booked two adjoining sites. Several trees had been cut down and area seeded. Not what we were expecting. Grass seed can be planted in the fall; perhaps that would have been best when heavy camping season is over. We hooked up to campground water - it is brown. Did not use it for cooking or drinking. Last year we didn't have to check out til 3:00 I believe, but now you have to be out by noon even if no one is coming in to your site. Barely time to eat breakfast, clean up, pack up and leave! Disappointing. We would have liked to attend church service, as we have in the past, but not enough time since we had to be ready to leave. Took granddaughter to playground - there really should be a fence since it is very close to the overflow water. New feature - mailbox with artbook and colored pencils for you to make a picture of your camping experience. Granddaughter enjoyed that. We appreciate the paved roads for riding bikes.

This is our favorite of all favorite campgrounds and we come here as much as we can. The campground is nice and roomy. There are many things to do within 60-90 min of the area that are a must see. Several Kayak trips you can do - bring your own or rent from either Outback Adventures in Tionesta to paddle the Allegheny or go to Ridgway and paddle the Clarion River via Lazy Canoe Rentals. You can also paddle Tionesta Lake but be prepared for some head winds that often sneak up. If you like cycling the rail trails, try the Oil Creek Petroleum Center to Drakes Well ride on beautiful paved trails and gorgeous scenery, or try several different trails near Oil City. Sandy Creek Trail is one of our favorites starting at the Belmar Bridge. If you would like to walk around the campground, they have a lovely hike starting at the dam and goes to the top of the ridge overlooking the lake. It is worth the trek to do the whole trail loop. Other places to visit are Kinzua Dam overlook, Jakes Rocks, Beartown Rocks, Kinzua Bridge State Park (to walk out and see the tornado damage that took out the highest railway bridge. Then stop at Mount Jewitt for some ice cream. The best ice cream around is in the town of Tionesta called Bananas. If you are there in late August, drive to Bennezette Visitors Center and try to get a glimpse of elk. We only wish the campground would stay open through October so that we could enjoy the beautiful fall colors.
