My wife and I have been going to Chickasaw Recreational Area for over 50 years. (Started back when it was Platt National Park) Our three children also grew up going to the park. Although the park is just a few blocks out of town, the minute you enter the park you feel you are miles away. The campsites in each of the campgrounds are wooded and spaced well apart. There is no electricity or sewer hookups in the old part but there are hookups at the newer Buckhorn Park and Arbuckle Lake South of the older park area. There are clean flushing restrooms, no showers, and water hydrants in the older campgrounds. Our favorite campground was Rock Creek which is now closed. Cold Springs Campground is now open year round. It is right across the street from Rock Creek swimming holes. We love campsites 20, 21, 22. The camp hosts, Ron and Anne are the nicest couple and helpful with anything you may need. They will be truly missed now that they are retiring this year. Ranger Ashley is also fantastic. You will want to check out the Nature Center, the interpretative Ranger programs, the nature trails behind the Nature Center going to the two springs that feed Rock Creek, Little Niagara, Bromide Hill trail, Veterans Lake, the Bison overlook, swim in the cold year round spring fed Rock Creek water, or swim at Arbuckle Lake. There is so much to do at the park. Spend all day hiking, biking, swimming and return to your campground with a nice fire and enjoy the deer, birds, raccoons, and other wildlife right at your campsite. There is also a five mile hiking, biking, equestrian trail that goes through beautiful secluded park land with rolling hills and creeks from Veterans Lake to the newer Buckhorn area. Also the Chickasaw Cultural Center just outside of the park is well worth visiting to see Indian artifacts, history, and replica village. My wife and I just spent 4 nights with our now grown kids and their families and again had a wonderful time as we have had for over 50 years now.

Camp host was the best I have encountered. A little unnerving how she could shape shift and appear anywhere at will. But she was super friendly and set the standard for camp hosts.
