Very clean campground. Had just been mowed. Not busy this time of year so we were next to the beach.

Near the end of September and we easily got a spot next to the lake. Super quiet, clean, and a wonderful few days spent at Heyburn. I only wish the GPS would have sent us from OKC to the lake from paved roads, instead of all the gravel roads. If I had previously known about the gravel roads, I could have changed the settings on my GPS to avoid gravel roads.

We normally love Heyburn. We've been camping here for well over 25 years. This was the worst experience at the park we've ever had. There is a serious geese problem, especially at Site 23 and at the water. I took my 2 year old grandson down to the swim beach after we arrived, so that he could play with his trucks and wade in the edge with me. 3 geese immediately flew in, got extremely close, beating their wings and snapping at him. I tried shooing them away, but they kept coming closer, as my grandson had just finished a cookie, and still had one in his hand. We finally had to go back to the camper, chased the whole way by angry geese. The next day we were unable to even leave the camper, as the geese stayed around and under it most of the day, since it was a thoroughfare to the campers above us, who were feeding them constantly. If I went out, I could successfully shoo them away, but for some reason they would charge at my grandson as soon as they saw him. Poor guy had to play inside all weekend. When my husband got there Friday evening, our carpet in front of our camper was literally covered in goose excrement, as was the whole area around the camper. We've always loved camping at Heyburn in the Fall, watching the geese, deer, and other wildlife, and getting to relax with family. I think campers may have forgotten that these are wild animals, and have gotten these geese used to being fed, so now they're relying on the humans for non-nutritious food, and causing a health hazard with the amount of excrement they're leaving at the swim beach and sites 22 and 23. They're gorgeous birds, and I love watching them fly in and land on the lake in the morning. However, until the situation is taken care of we will no longer camp there.
