Fire danger and smoke forced us to cancel our plans to visit Walton Lake

two years consecutively at Walton Lake primarily to hike Lookout and Round mountains. The northern loop (tents) is quiet and wonderful. Facilities are well kept as well. two recommendations: 1) no generators on north loop - keep it quiet!; 2) north loop needs defined trails from car to 'site' without a facility defined path, campers create their own (more than 1).

Beautiful site, nice hosts, quiet campers and EAGLES!

Spot 23 is a perfect distance from the lake but has no direct access, you have to go to either side both of which were claimed by the people of the campsite nearest it by use of their paddle boards being on the bank blocking access. This has more to do with entitlement than anything I believe. The lake was nice and quiet, seeing as how it rained half the time there Id expect nothing less. Met Tony (the camp host) on the first night and only saw him once during 4 days. Bathrooms are vault toilets which were almost completely filled but were fairly clean. No lights in them though unlike a previous review mentioned. When it says FCFS on the reservation area of the website that isnt entirely accurate as someone had reserved our spot that was listed as FCFS so unsure how that happened. Id go back since there are very minimal amounts of bugs and very cute ducks.

This lake is such a peaceful place, especially tent camping on the north shore. Ospreys and ducks share the lake with the humans. A bear visited the camp one night (not our campsite), so we slept in the car. Only downside is the single source of drinking water for the entire campground, on the south side of the lake.

Overall, the campground, campsite, and lake were beautiful. The campground is well maintained and the hosts are super friendly.

I'm not sure if I missed it when I booked the site, but I wasn't expecting to hike down to our campsite. Granted it wasn't a long "hike" at all, but it was interesting unpacking in the dark... Lol.

My only complaint is that there were lots of screaming children and barking dogs. I thought it would be quieter at the end of September but I guess we picked the wrong weekend for peace and quiet.
