We loved this campground. Great for bike riding, quiet, huge lots. Basketball, disc golf, swimming, so much to do for everyone. Site 17 was a bit weird. Back in, then go downstairs to your camp spot, which was huge. But along our 40' motorhome was just like a 2' walk way to the stairs going down, which we had the bikes at the back, which backed up right to the site next to us so it was a little tight. That being said, the actual campsite with the fire ring area was huge, ig trees, right on the water. Really nice! We have Verizon and could text, without pics, but no actual internet service. Other reviews say Verizon is good, but maybe because we were in the trees?? We didn't get the Blackstone out because it's the 22" and too heavy for the hubs to carry down the stairs, so we used the Ninja Speedi all weekend. We liked it so much we booked another stay already!

Usually, my experience is excellent at Bandits Roost. The last trip began on July 5 and I'm sure that it was hard to keep up with all the 4th of July guest, trash and cleaning. The men's restroom toilets were stopped up the entire trip. with water running out the door into the handicap camp site. Dumpsters were overflowing and trash piled all around the dumpster. Maybe on holidays the core of engineers could get extra help to keep these areas taken care of. The lake is beautiful, quiet, wonderful asset for Wilkes County. We are very appreciative and thankful to be able to enjoy it.

Overall, we enjoyed our first time camping at Bandits Roost. We had a great campsite near the water and it was perfect fall weather. There was a storm that blew in very quickly one night while we were there and crews were out early the next morning cleaning up and clearing paths. My one major complaint was the attitude of the rangers at the gate. My husband and I both had different rangers be rude to us while coming back in the campground. While I appreciate that they take their job seriously in making sure no vehicle enters unauthorized, they can leave the attitude and snarky comments behind. They are very unnecessary and did leave me questioning if I want to return.

Some of the sites are quite crowed, but the water view is quite nice. We enjoy the water view and the quite camp site.

I visited on week of memorial day. I have to say, out of all the campground experiences, this was the quietest and well behaved campground. The park staff was very nice and helpful.

Site 17 is difficult to back a trailer into. The table and grill require using a flight of stairs to access. Nice water view. Old tired shower. No laundry available which is hard on full-time travelers. Good location for when they reopen Wilkesboro speedway
